The article analyses the archives of a medium-affluent Samogitian noble family. It comprises files concerning minor nobility. This group is usually the least represented in written documents. The author tries to answer a number of questions about the usefulness of the family archive for researching Samogitian poor nobility: how numerous they were, whether they were of local origin, or (and to what extent) incomers, what language they used on a daily basis, what was their material and cultural status (including the level of literacy), whether there were features that distinguished them from the rest of the Lithuanian nobility, and whether there were any changes within the Samogitian nobility in the modern period (and what)?

W artykule poddano analizie archiwum średniozamożnej żmudzkiej rodziny szlacheckiej. W jego skład wchodzą przede wszystkim akta dotyczące drobnej, miejscowej szlachty. Środowisko to jest zazwyczaj najsłabiej reprezentowane w dokumentach pisanych. Autor próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie czy archiwum rodzinne jako całość może odpowiedzieć na podstawowe pytania dotyczących niezamożnej szlachty żmudzkiej. Jak była liczna, czy była pochodzenia miejscowego, czy może raczej (i w jakim stopniu) napływowego, jakim językiem posługiwała się na co dzień, jaki był jej status materialny, kulturalny, w tym poziom alfabetyzacji, czy istniały cechy wyróżniające ją spośród rzeszy szlachty litewskiej, czy w okresie nowożytnym następowały w jej obrębie zmiany (i jakie)?
