In this document the origin of musical criticism and musical features of critical text is considered. Based on the statements of critics of various periods, the author notes the excellent interpretation of the functions of musical-critical text. Thus, it was found that A. Sohor considered the social functions of musical criticism, regarding the place, which it occupies in music. Position of L. Melnyk is caused by the interpretation of musical criticism as an analytical segment of music journalism. From the author’s view, the most detailed features of musical-critical text are considered by O. Zinkevych and Yu. Chekan. They identified informative, interpretative, axiological, communicative, educative, regulatory and prognostic features. The author paid most attention to axiological and communicative functions of musicalcritical text and concluded that the axiological function is the main function of criticism. It is directly related to the notion of artistic discovery and depends on personal interest in the subject of art. When analyzing the communicative function, the text is seen as the act of speaking, as an expression. Communicative links between texts are also indicated. To sum up, it was concluded that serving the communicative function, musicalcritical text provides a connection among various chains of cultural and artistic process.
