Ziemiańskie długi a wspólnota narodowa. Spór o moratorium dla dłużników w Królestwie Polskim w latach 1815–1825

The debate over the moratorium on the repayments of landowners’ debts was held in the Kingdom of Poland during two Sejm sessions, in 1818 and 1820, and in the press. The supporters of the moratorium presented the indebtedness of landed estates as the result of heavy sacrifices made by the landed nobility for national purposes and war damage in the period of the Duchy of Warsaw. The image of generous landlords was set against that of egoistic capitalists seeking to take over landed estates. Supporters and opponents of the temporary moratorium on debt payments appealed to different concepts of the national community and ideals of citizenship and differently presented the political role of various social groups.

Dyskusja o moratorium na spłatę ziemiańskich długów toczyła się w Królestwie Polskim na dwóch sejmach, w 1818 i 1820 r., a także na łamach prasy. Zwolennicy moratorium przedstawiali zadłużenie majątków ziemskich jako efekt ponoszenia wielkich ofiar na cele narodowe i zniszczeń wojennych w czasach Księstwa Warszawskiego. Ofiarnym ziemianom przeciwstawiano egoistycznych posiadaczy kapitałów, chcących przejąć majątki ziemskie. Zwolennicy i przeciwnicy zawieszenia spłaty długów odwoływali się do różnych koncepcji wspólnoty narodowej i do różnych ideałów obywatelstwa, inaczej też przedstawiali polityczną rolę różnych grup społecznych.

The presented sketch, referring mainly to conservative thought, tries to present the moral dilemmas of Polish romantics (A. Mickiewicz, J. Słowacki, Z. Krasiński, C. Norwid) on the road to independence. Taking into account the concept of Wallenrodism, the state of conspiracy, open insurrectionary struggle, and methods of revolutionary terror, these methods of active resistance were confronted with Christian ethics, co-creating the essence of Latin civilization. The sometimes immoral ways of fighting suggested by the historical situation conflicted with the Decalogue and tested the conscience of their perpetrators, Polish patriots.

Prezentowany szkic, nawiązujący głównie do myśli konserwatywnej, stara się przedstawić dylematy moralne polskich romantyków (A. Mickiewicz, J. Słowacki, Z. Krasiński, C. Norwid) na drodze do niepodległości. Biorąc pod uwagę koncepcję wallenrodyzmu, stanu konspiracji, otwartej walki powstańczej, metod rewolucyjnego terroru, te sposoby aktywnego oporu zostały skonfrontowane z etyką chrześcijańską, współtworząc istotę cywilizacji łacińskiej. Sugerowane przez sytuację historyczną, niekiedy niemoralne sposoby walki, kolidowały z dekalogiem i wystawiały na próbę sumienia ich sprawców, polskich patriotów
