The article discusses the issues of nationality and citizenship in the Polish territories in the context of World War II and in the period after 1945. The introduction outlines the situation in the interwar period that occurred due to the establishment of new international order and the emergence of new nation states. The Nazi policy introduced a new quality to ethnic relations in Europe. During the war, a compulsory germanization was carried out by means of german national list on the polish territories annexed to the Third Reich. After 1945, it was time for settlement of germanized people for their attitudes and motives for registration with the Volksliste.
