The aim of the article is to analyze the concept of a natural monument as a category that may be useful in non-anthropocentric humanities. A theory of nature conservation based on this concept is discussed as an approach that undermines the culture – nature dichotomy by claiming that a “culture of nature” should be developed. The idea of a natural monument makes it also possible to offer an interpretation of the natural environment that may withstand standard views of nature as an economic resource, tourist attraction or a sphere which humans should not interfere with. The ideas of certain Polish pioneers of ecology are also shortly discussed.

Region świętokrzyski jest niezwykle atrakcyjną i unikatową destynacją turystyczną. Na obszarze tym rzeczywista historia przeplata się z pięknymi legendami, a niepowtarzalna przyroda oraz pomniki przyrody i bogate dziedzictwo kulturowe przyciągają rzesze turystów. Artykuł zawiera analizę walorów turystycznych województwa świętokrzyskiego. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano Góry Świętokrzyskie, Świętokrzyski Park Narodowy, parki krajobrazowe, obszary leśne oraz akweny. Celem zwiększenia liczby turystów przybywających do województwa należy nadal rozwijać szeroko pojętą bazę turystyczną.

The świętokrzyskie region is an extremely attractive and unique tourist destination. In this area, real history is intertwined with beautiful legends, and the unique nature, natural monuments and rich cultural heritage attract masses of tourists to the świętokrzyskie region. The article contains the analysis of the tourist values of the Świętokrzyskie province. It presents the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, Świętokrzyski National Park, Landscape Parks, forest areas and water reservoirs. In order to increase the number of tourists coming to the Świętokrzyskie province, the broadly understood tourist base should continue to be developed.
