The oppression of single mothers generally takes specific forms in neoliberal society, because the traditional pressure associated with the female caring role is accompanied by oppression derived from their dependence on the welfare system. Social work can play an important role in this oppression because, as one of the ‘psy’ professions, it becomes a tool of surveillance of fulfilment of the female caring role and aims to discourage women from dependency on welfare system at the same time. The aim of the article is to reflect the risk of oppression of single mothers from the Czech social work in the context of the cultural policy of the neoliberal state. The surveillance technologies used by social workers were sought through the analysis of Michel Foucault’s work. It was found that the promotion of idea of human as homo oeconomicus plays a role in assessment process and in choosing the method of intervention. Other significant surveillance techniques may be the illusion of the neutral knowledge of the profession, the duty of confession and the gatekeeping.

The 21st-century university is a contested site of neoliberal transformation. Its role is moving away from that of a hub of culture, knowledge and critique to that of a provider of skills and employability for the market. The move towards a lean business model in the management of knowledge production is not an isolated phenomenon, but integral to the shift ing economic, political and moral landscapes of global capitalism and the knowledge society. The literature discussing the changes in higher education, which could be collectively termed “critical studies of academia”, remains fragmented and is yet to yield tangible resistance or envision viable alternative models of academic governance. This article discusses the possibility of generating constructive critique of “the new spirit of academic capitalism” from within. French Convention Theory is employed as a conceptual toolbox for unpacking the worlds of worth, conventions and justifi cations which operate beneath the surface of the marketisation, acceleration and casualisation of scientific labour – and suggested as a potential tool for building a generative sociology of critique.

Univerzita 21. století je místem napadeným neoliberální transformací. Stává se dodavatelkou dovedností a pracovní síly. Zároveň tím opouští svoje postavení hlavního společenského ohniska kultury, poznání a kritiky. Tento posun kezeštíhlenému obchodnímu modelu, který je vlastní produkci vědění, však není izolovaným jevem – je součástí měnících se ekonomických, politických a morálních krajin globálního kapitalismu a společnost vědění. Literatura analyzující tyto změny – lze ji souhrnně nazvat jako “kritická studia akademie” – však zůstává roztříštěná a zatím nenabízí skutečnou rezistenci nebo představy životaschopných alternativních modelů akademického vládnutí a správy (governance). Tento článek pojednává o možností formulovaní konstruktivní kritiky “nového ducha akademického kapitalismu”, a to zevnitř samotné akademie. Francouzská teorie konvencí je využita jako sada koncepčních nástrojů k analýze hodnotových světů, konvencí a způsobů ospravedlnění ležících pod povrchem marketizace, zrychlení a nestálosti podmínek vědecké práce. Článek též tvrdí že teorie konvencí představuje potenciální instrument vhodný ke konstrukci generativní sociologie kritiky.

This article proposes that the prime ideals of the university - those of truth, knowledge, justice, and emancipation - are also those that currently produce unjust practices "outside" (through aiding social stratification) and "within" (through internal hierarchies and exclusions). Using the work of Jacques Derrida and Paul Virilio, the article argues that the central problem of the university today consists not so much of a neo-liberalisation, but of the speeding-up of these ideals through their enmeshment with techniques of calculation, vision, and prediction. The current university therefore suffers from what it with Derrida identifies as an "auto-immune disease," in which the acceleration of its foundational aspirations have led to a near-total subjugation of all and everything to an oppressive quest for transparency. However, the article proposes via Virilio that this totalising transparency paradoxically also produces more blindness, accidents, and unknowability. It hopes to illustrate this with some examples in the teaching scene as well by working through some of its own conceptual tensions. The other logic of the university today, the article finally proposes, consists of a "dark" or stealth functionality, opening up the promise of a radically different future and unanticipated resistance despite itself.

Tato studie tvrdí, že hlavní ideály univerzity - pravda, poznání, spravedlnost a emancipace - zároveň produkují nespravedlivé praktiky "vně" (skrze prohlubování sociální stratifikace) a "uvnitř" (skrze interní hierarchie a exkluzi) univerzity. S využitím poznatků Jacquesa Derridy a Paula Virilia se článek zabývá důvody, proč klíčovým problémem současné univerzity není až tak neoliberalizace jako spíše zrychlování těchto ideálů skrze jejich popletenost s technikami kalkulace, vize a predikce. Současná univerzita tak trpí tím, co Derrida identifikuje jako "auto-imunitní nemoc", kdy zrychlování základních aspirací univerzity vede k jejímu téměř totálnímu podrobení všech a všeho represivní snaze o transparentnost. Na pozdí práce Virilia však studie tvrdí, že tato totalizující transparentnost paradoxně produkuje více slepoty, nehod a nepoznatelnosti. Toto tvrzení se argumentace pokouší doložit jak na příkladech z pedagogického prostředí, ale i tak, že rozpracovává některé své vlastní koncepční tenze. Závěrem článek tvrdí, že "temná" nebo též tajná funkčnost přestavuje druhou logiku dnešní univerzity, která navzdory sebe sama, otevírá příslib radikálně jiné budoucnosti a nepředvídatelného odporu.
