In contemporary societies a clearly visible social change is taking place. Direct communication still plays the most important role here, but alongside it there appear some new forms of communication which exist in the space between personal and mass communication, e.g. chats, internet communicators, fora, and they start to play an important role in everyday life of individuals. It is the place where virtual communities are created. This is how some new communities of self-help nature can be developed and function; they stem from the needs of the disabled, and are realized in social networks which are based on interpersonal mediated communication. They play a vital role in contemporary society because the ongoing process of individualization makes the individual, who functions in various social networks, cope on their own; they can no longer count on solidarity of others belonging to their environment. Traditional local communities, families, big bureaucratic institutions fall apart to smaller elements. Instead of them, some new types of communities emerge. In our paper we want to show that an important role is played in the social participation of the disabled by the social networks which appeared in the Internet. We will focus particularly on community portals and forums to show the significance and functions performed by the virtual social networks according to the disabled themselves.

Współczesne społeczeństwo ulega zmianie pod wpływem nowoczesnych technologii medialnych i internetowych. W powstającym społeczeństwie sieci nadal bezpośrednia komunikacja odgrywa najważniejszą rolę, ale obok niej pojawiają się nowe formy służące nawiązywaniu i utrzymywaniu interakcji, które łączą w sobie wymiar osobisty i publiczny komunikatów, np. czaty czy profile internetowe. Ma to istotne znaczenie dla środowiska osób niepełnosprawnych, bowiem w przestrzeni wirtualnej mogą powstawać i rozwijać się wspólnoty o samopomocowym charakterze, które łączą osoby znajdujące się w podobnym położeniu społecznym i mające podobne doświadczenia. Odgrywają one istotną rolę, ponieważ zarówno tradycyjne społeczności lokalne, jak i duże instytucje biurokratyczne przeżywają dziś kryzys. Zostały one ukształtowane w dobie społeczeństwa industrialnego i w nowych warunkach tracą swoją funkcjonalność. Powstające społeczności wirtualne stanowią więc ich cenne uzupełnienie. Podstawowym celem artykułu jest ukazanie znaczenia i funkcji, jakie dla osób niepełnosprawnych ma ich partycypacja w społecznościach powstających w sieciach społecznych, które istnieją w Internecie na portalach i forach społecznościowych.

Multidimensional transformation of the man, the society, economy, politics, science, education – and many others – is taking place practically everywhere and is affecting virtually everybody and everything, both directly and indirectly. The extent of this transformation is unprecedented and baffling almost as much as the information that Cyprus known as tax haven may go bankrupt. These powerful transformations, whether we wish it or not, have influence over the school. It often seems there are no wise heads here, as the scale of education, or rather pseudo education outside the rightful education system e.g. via Facebook, may be shocking for many parents who after some time are completely taken by surprise when they find out how their children get educated. I am certain, however, that we are responsible for our children’s education and for the condition of the future society. It will be certainly a slightly different society and a slightly different man but, in fact, our goal is to make them better not worse. Therefore we definitely have to undertake challenges, examine the situation and constantly look for a better school and didactics model. The Year of Janusz Korczak has ended. We have commemorated the Man who left his career to explore the world of children to build better contact with them, to create better didactics, to aid human growth. The whole concept of Janusz Korczak, PhD, is still fresh and inspiring. Certainly many great parents, teachers, thinkers ad children as well, in the depth of their hearts want a modern, multimedia-aided, and ethically better school. They want a better man an society where personalism will be the strength of the man and interpersonal communication will become the development dynamics. “Follow the living, reach the new life…” (A.
