Metoda bootstrapowa polega na wtórnym próbkowaniu pierwotnej próby losowej pobranej z populacji o nieznanym rozkładzie. W artykule pokazano, że wtórne próbkowanie nie jest konieczne, jeśli rozmiar próby nie jest zbyt duży. Możliwe jest wówczas automatyczne wygenerowanie wszystkich prób wtórnych i obliczenie wszystkich realizacji wybranego estymatora. Metodę dokładnego bootstrapu zastosowano do oszacowania średniej. Losowanie próby może być interpretowane jako dyskretyzacja ciągłej zmiennej losowej. Biorąc pod uwagę postęp w technice komputerowej, można mieć nadzieję, że znaczenie dyskretnych zmiennych losowych w statystyce będzie coraz większy.

The bootstrap method is based on resampling of the original random sample drawn from a population with an unknown distribution. In the article it was shown that resampling is unnecessary if the sample size is not too large. It is possible to automatically generate all possible resamples and calculate all realizations of the required estimator. The method was used to estimate mean. Random sampling may be interpreted as discretization of a continuous variable. Because of the progress in computer technology we may hope that the role of discrete variables in statistics will increase.
