This article presents and discusses selected issues of theological anthropology of John Paul II and shows the Pope’s contribution to understanding and explaining the mystery of the human being. The theological anthropology of John Paul II is an anthropocentric and theocentric anthropology which is Christo-centrically motivated, because at its centre is the person of Jesus Christ the Redeemer of the human being, and it aims to show His person as the final and definitive answer to the question about the human being and his/her destiny. Due to the fact that the Pope himself believes that the basis for practicing theological anthropology is philosophical anthropology, the first part of the article mentions the sources of inspiration for Karol Wojtyła’s human philosophy and its basic theses. In the second part, however, the main topics of theological anthropology of John Paul II are discussed, which include: the truth about the beginning of the human being, the original sin, the mystery of the incarnation and redemption, and the novelty of life in Christ.

Niniejszy artykuł omawia wybrane zagadnienia z antropologii teologicznej Jana Pawła II oraz pokazuje wkład papieża w rozumienie i wyjaśnienie tajemnicy człowieka. Antropologia teologiczna Jana Pawła II jest antropologią antropocentryczną i teocentryczną motywowaną chrystocentrycznie, ponieważ w jej centrum znajduje się osoba Jezusa Chrystusa, Odkupiciela człowieka, i zmierza do pokazania Jego osoby jako ostatecznej i definitywnej odpowiedzi na pytanie o człowieka i jego przeznaczenie. Ze względu na to, że sam papież uważa, iż podstawą do uprawiania antropologii teologicznej jest antropologia filozoficzna, w pierwszej części artykułu mowa jest o źródłach inspiracji filozofii człowieka Karola Wojtyły i jej podstawowych tezach. W drugiej natomiast części zostają omówione zasadnicze tematy antropologii teologicznej Jana Pawła II, do których należą: prawda o „początku” człowieka, grzech pierworodny, tajemnica wcielenia i odkupienia, nowość życia w Chrystusie.
