This article constitutes a review of a monographic volume of University of Łódź publication “Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Historica”, which is dedicated to the participation of foreign volunteers and regular soldiers in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). In ten articles nine authors present the fight on the both sides of the war – rightist and leftist – of the representatives of following nationalities: French, Soviets, Poles, Americans, British, Swiss, Germans, Portuguese, Italians, and Moroccans. The alien intervention (German – Condor Legion, Italian – Corpo Truppe Volontarie, and Soviet – International Brigades) in that war is explained as well as most important circumstances related to the participation of foreigners in that conflict, among other, mechanisms of the intervention and methods to hide it, recruitment, motivations, initiatives, numbers, social position, ideology, internal conflicts, oppression, etc. A review is completed by remarks on research dedicated to the Spanish Civil War.
