The paper deals with historical memory and recounts that oblivion is often its constitutive element. Interrelation of the memory and oblivion creates specific topography of the past — the source of origin of our culture and art. Art enthralls us by its striving for perfection. Just this striving is a form of the lack of freedom.

Забуття — то дисципліна пам’яті, адже пам’ятати все неможливо, а щось пам’ятати й не варто. Пам’ять — то вузька стежка в хащах забуття, чи радше стежки, деякі з них губляться у забутті, а деякі виводять на широкий шлях індивідуальної чи спільної історії.
