This article presents the story of the missing image of the Crucifixion of Christ. This image was once kept in the cemetery church of the Holy Cross in Sierpc. At the end of the 18th century the image was transferred to the private chapel of the Benedict nuns in the monastery in Sierpc. The article presents problems of iconography and ideological content. An attempt was made to place the role of the image in the devotion of the faithful.

Artykuł poświęcony jest dziejom zaginionego dziś obrazu Ukrzyżowania Chrystusa znajdującego się niegdyś w kościele cmentarnym pw. Świętego Krzyża w Sierpcu i przeniesionym w końcu XVIII wieku do prywatnej kaplicy mniszek benedyktynek w klasztorze w Sierpcu. Omówiona została ikonografia obrazu oraz treści ideowe w nim zawarte. Podjęta została również próba umiejscowienia roli obrazu w pobożności wiernych na przestrzeni dziejów.
