Celem pracy jest przybliżenie sylwetki Marii Starorypińskiej- Lewenstamowej (1890-1965). Była lekarzem okulistą, specjalizującym się w placówkach medycznych w Europie. Jej najważniejsze prace naukowe dotyczyły między innymi zmian barwnikowych oka, zmian gruźliczych naczyniówki oraz rogówki, guzów podsiatkówkowych oraz zwyrodnienia plamki związanego z wiekiem.

The aim of the work is to present the biography and scientific achievements of Maria Starorypińska- Lewenstamowa (1890-1965). She was an ophthalmologist trained in different Europea medical centers. Her most important scientific works concerned eye tuberculosis, subretinal tumors and age-related macular degeneration.
