Scientific activities performed in museums comprise of research on museum objects that is published in raisonée catalogues, and discussions (based on those collections) on cultural history issues that have not been explored so far. The author presents some examples of (problematic and monographic) museum exhibitions of modern painting which substantially contributed – and sometimes even opened new research perspectives – to painting history. According to the author, the creativity of Polish museologists is not utilized to the full extent due to shortcomings in organization of work.

Nauka uprawiana w muzeach to badanie, a następnie publikowanie w katalogach raisonée własnych muzealiów oraz podejmowanie (w oparciu o te zbiory) nie eksplorowanych dotychczas zagadnień historii kultury. Autorka przywołuje przykłady muzealnych wystaw (problemowych i monograficznych) z dziedziny nowożytnego malarstwa, których wyniki były istotnym wkładem, niekiedy i otwarciem nowych perspektyw badawczych dla historii malarstwa. Niepełne spożytkowywanie kreatywności polskich muzealników wynika zdaniem autorki z mankamentów organizacji ich pracy.
