Aim: The article is regarding learning about the direction of changes in the contemporary family and the conditions of its functioning. Transformations of the family functions are made under the influence of political, economic, social and legislative changes. These changes make many of the tasks previously performed by the family to be now carried out outside of it. Methods: A diagnostic survey was adopted as the leading method of collecting materials and organizing research. In order to get to know the assumed problem, the original questionnaire for a student with a family and a questionnaire for the student’s parents wereused as the basic tools. Results: The results of the conducted research indicate a significant change regarding the procreative function. Students definitely more often 32.8% than their parents (7.8%) give this function a high rank. Significant changes have also taken place in the scope of caring functions. The analysis of research results shows that the examined students more often than their parents gave this function a high weight (75% and 56.3%, respectively).The cultural-social function is important for the surveyed students, formore than half of them (53.1%). In contrast, in families of the origin of students, this function for 65.6% of parents was of low rank. In modern families, the economic function is becoming increasingly important. The research results show that the parents of the surveyed students indicated much less frequently than their children function as the highest (32.8%), while 64.1% of the surveyed students gave this function a significant rank indicating it as the second after the caring function in the validity of all family functions. Conclusions: The analysis showed that almost all functions traditionally attributed to the family are by this environment is realized, however, many changes in the scope of their conditioning are discernible various factors. Cel: Artykuł dotyczy poznania kierunku przemian współczesnej rodziny i warunków jej funkcjonowania. Przeobrażenia funkcji rodziny dokonują się pod wpływem przemian ustrojowych, politycznych, ekonomicznych, społecznych i ustawodawczych. Przemiany te sprawiają, że wiele zadań, jakie wcześniej pełniła rodzina, jest realizowanych poza nią. Metody: Za wiodącą metodą gromadzenia materiałów i organizującą badania przyjęto sondaż diagnostyczny. W celu poznania założonej problematyki jako podstawowe narzędzie zastosowano autorski kwestionariusz ankiety dla studenta posiadającego własną rodzinę oraz kwestionariusz dla rodziców studenta. Wyniki: Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują na znaczącą zmianę dotyczącą rangi funkcji prokreacyjnej. Studenci zdecydowanie częściej (32,8%) niż ich rodzice (7,8%) nadają tej funkcji wysoką rangę. Istotne zmiany zaszły również w zakresie funkcji opiekuńczej. Analiza wyników badań pozwala zauważyć, że badani studenci częściej niż ich rodzice nadawali tej funkcji wysoką wagę (odpowiednio (75% i 56,3%). Funkcja kulturalno-towarzyska jest ważna dla badanych studentów, bowiem ponad połowa z nich (53,1%) nadała jej wysoka wagę. W rodzinach pochodzenia studentów funkcja ta dla 65,6% rodziców miała niską rangę. We współczesnych rodzinach funkcja ekonomiczna nabiera coraz większego znaczenia. Przeprowadzone wyniki badań wskazują, że rodzice badanych studentów zdecydowanie rzadziej niż ich dzieci wskazywali rangę tej funkcji jako najwyższą (32,8%). Z kolei 64,1% badanych studentów nadało tej funkcji znaczącą rangę, wskazując ją jako drugą po funkcji opiekuńczej w ważności wszystkich funkcji rodziny. Wnioski: Przeprowadzona analiza pokazała, że prawie wszystkie funkcje tradycyjnie przypisywane rodzinie są przez to środowisko realizowane, jednakże dostrzegalne są liczne przemiany w zakresie ich pełnienia uwarunkowane różnymi czynnikami. Przeobrażenia funkcji rodziny dokonują się pod wpływem przemian ustrojowych, politycznych, ekonomicznych, społecznych i ustawodawczych. Przemiany te sprawiają, że wiele zadań, jakie wcześniej pełniła rodzina, jest realizowanych poza nią.
