Samodzielność finansowa jest ważnym elementem harmonijnego rozwoju gmin. Artykuł przedstawia jak zjawisko samodzielności finansowej ukazane zostało na tle literatury, m.in. w zakresie jej ujęcia i aspektów oraz czynników ją determinujących. Ponadto zaprezentowana została struktura dochodów gmin oraz dokonana została analiza poziomu samodzielności finansowej w gminach województwa mazowieckiego w latach 2007-2013, z której wynika że najwyższy jej poziom występuje w gminach miejskich, natomiast najniższy w gminach wiejskich.

The financial independency is a very important thing for harmonious development of the community. The article presents how the phenomen of financial independency was shown in literature, including in terms of its approach and aspects and factors that determine it. Moreover, it shows the structure of community incomes and the analysis of financial independency level in Mazowieckie province communities in years 2007-2013, its the highest level found in the municipalities, and the lowest in rural communities.
