Żydowscy sutenerzy w międzywojennej Polsce. Próba charakterystyki środowiska na przykładzie Lublina

The aim of the article is to present the functioning of the group of Jewish pimps in Lublin in the interwar period. It discusses, inter alia, the issues of pimping, pandering and procuring in the legal system of the Second Polish Republic, demographic characteristics of the Lublin pimps’ group, its motivations, forms of activity, internal structure and hierarchy, methods of acquiring prostitutes, relations between pimps and prostitutes, methods of controlling the paid love market, ethnic relations within the group and the circumstances of bringing its members to criminal responsibility. Due to, inter alia, the author believes that the image emerging from the analysis of the pre-war pimps’ circle in Lublin is characterized by a high degree of universality and, in many respects, it can also be extrapolated to other cities of interwar Poland.

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie form funkcjonowania środowiska żydowskich sutenerów w Lublinie w okresie dwudziestolecia międzywojennego. Omówiono w nim m.in. problematykę sutenerstwa, stręczycielstwa i kuplerstwa w systemie prawnym II Rzeczypospolitej, charakterystykę demograficzną lubelskiego środowiska sutenerów, kierujące nimi motywacje, formy działalności, wewnętrzną organizację i hierarchię, metody pozyskiwania prostytutek, relacje między sutenerami a prostytutkami, sposoby kontroli rynku płatnej miłości, stosunki etniczne wewnątrz grupy oraz okoliczności pociągnięcia do odpowiedzialności karnej jej członków. Z uwagi m.in. na ponadregionalne powiązania badanej zbiorowości, mobilność prostytutek, powtarzalność pewnych wzorców zachowań w przestrzeni i czasie, obraz wyłaniający się z analizy przedwojennego środowiska lubelskiego sutenerów cechuje się, zdaniem autora, dużym stopniem uniwersalności i w wielu aspektach można go ekstrapolować także na inne miasta międzywojennej Polski.
