Taking into account the socio-economic changes and policies of the European Union, you will still see current problems with the introduction of the transport sector on a more sustainable path. Rapidly increasing demand for road transport contributes to increased consumption of petroleum-based fuels, the vast majority of diesel. The transport sector is already responsible for more than half the world's oil consumption and the share is growing. Improvement of energy efficiency in transport fuel use was in fact insufficient for the increasing number of vehicles and the increase in transport performance. On the basis of a numerous scenarios and case studies it can be concluded that in the medium term balance of fuel in the transport sector in 90% will be dominated by the petroleum resources. Binding in the coming decades global trends in energy and climate determine the key challenge for transport system. The aim is namely to meet the constantly growing demand for energy.
