PASJA ŁĄCZENIA – KATOLICKA TEOLOGIA NATURALNA JÓZEFA ŻYCIŃSKIEGO

The passion for unifying is one of the most characteristic features of Józef Życinski’s thought. It is also noticeable in the area of natural theology which he proposes. This theology can be named ‘catholic’. Życiński takes care of compatibility of his results with the doctrine of The Catholic Church. He tries to unify different streams and points of view in one conception. He stands for methodological naturalism which is not inconsistent with looking for ultimate explanations of reality beyond science. Życiński accepts panentheism inspired by philosophy of Whitehead as the most plausible theory of correlation between God and the world. This paper shows the project of synthesis which can be found in books and articles by Życiński, points the elements which his natural theology is built of, and indicates the questions and problems connected with this theory. Finally, there is shown the importance of Życinski’s natural theology which ranks to “new natural theologies”.

Pasja łączenia jest jedną z najbardziej charakterystycznych cech myśli Józefa Życińskiego. Jest ona widoczna także w obszarze proponowanej przez niego teologii naturalnej. Teologię tę można określić jako ‘katolicka’. Życiński dba o to, by osiągane przezeń wyniki nie stały w sprzeczności z nauczaniem Kościoła Katolickiego. Stara się również łączyć w jednym stanowisku różnorodne nurty i punkty widzenia. Opowiada się za naturalizmem metodologicznym, który nie stoi w sprzeczności z poszukiwaniem ostatecznych wyjaśnień rzeczywistości poza nauką. Jako najbardziej zadowalającą koncepcję relacji Boga i świata przyjmuje, inspirowany filozofią Whiteheada, panenteizm. Artykuł ukazuje projekt syntezy, który wyłania się z książek i artykułów Życińskiego, wskazuje na elementy, z których zbudowana jest jego teologia naturalna i sygnalizuje pytania i trudności, które wiążą się z jego propozycją. Na koniec ukazana zostaje doniosłość teologii naturalnej Życińskiego, jako dającej się zaliczyć do „nowych teologii naturalnych”.
