The paper is based on project preparation works carried out in Piekarty, a village located in the southwestern part of the Mazovia region in Poland. The field study covered the historical park, including the access lane and a pond, and a small portion of the vast Piekarty estate and park complex that had once encompassed farmlands, river valley areas and fish ponds as well as stables and other outbuildings. The main objective was to gather all the necessary data for preparing a project serving to preserve the historical features while adapting the landscape to the needs of today’s user. The study employed the standard terrain evaluation methodology along with a detailed examination of the connections and correlations between the park and its immediate and further surroundings. The paper proposes that information on the surroundings be collected as well, as the species present outside the park could have inhabited the park grounds or would be able to inhabit them after the restoration works. Special emphasis was placed on identifying those features or their remnants which are of special natural and cultural interest. Attention was also paid to adhering to conservation guidelines as regards the protected historical area. Analyses at the stage of project preparation concerned landscape components and characteristics, such as atmospheric air, flowing and standing waters, vegetation and wildlife, soil types, relief, natural scenery and man-made structures. A number of landscaping solutions were also suggested, varying as to the degree of preservation of the existing landscape elements and possible layouts of the park. They will constitute the basis for a discussion leading to the selection of the optimal land use and design.

Artykuł powstał na podstawie prac przedprojektowych przeprowadzonych we wsi Piekarty, w południowo-zachodniej części województwa mazowieckiego. Obszarem badań objęto zabytkowy park z aleją dojazdową i stawem oraz niewielką część rozległego założenia dworsko-parkowego, którą dawniej stanowiły grunty rolnicze, dolina rzeki ze stawami rybnymi, stajniami i innymi obiektami gospodarczymi. Podstawowym celem opracowania było zebranie danych niezbędnych do wykonania projektu uwzględniającego zarówno ochronę istniejących wartości jak i dostosowanie terenu do potrzeb współczesnego użytkownika. Standardową metodę analiz terenu rozszerzono o badanie związków i zależności między parkiem a jego bliższą i dalszą okolicą. Przedstawiono propozycję pozyskiwania informacji także z otoczenia, zakładając że gatunki istniejące jeszcze poza parkiem mogły występować w parku lub mogłyby żyć w parku po rewaloryzacji. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na identyfikację istniejących elementów i ich pozostałości mających wartości przyrodnicze i kulturowe, a także na wytyczne konserwatorskie dotyczące obszaru zabytkowego. W analizach przedprojektowych badano składniki i cechy krajobrazu takie jak: powietrze atmosferyczne, wody (płynące i stojące), szata roślinna i świat zwierzęcy, gleby, rzeźba terenu, cechy estetyczno-widokowe oraz elementy wprowadzone przez człowieka. Zaproponowano kilka rozwiązań różniących się stopniem zachowania istniejących elementów i układem kompozycyjnym. Będą one służyły dyskusji w celu wyboru optymalnego sposobu zagospodarowania terenu.
