On the rhetorical power of combining religious and political motives in the analogies and examples used in the sermons inaugurating the parliaments of the pre-partition era The subject of the article are sermons delivered during the inauguration of the Polish Sejms of the pre-partition era. The content and selection of the linguistic means used in these speeches are known from the reports contained in the parliamentary diaries, especially those created in the 18th century. Preachers combined political and religious threads using the form of analogy and example. The former are always aimed at connecting the spheres of the sacred and the profane. Clergy refer to the truths of faith or ethical concepts and categories as well as to the liturgical calendar, and also use polysemy. In turn, the sources of examples are biblical characters and events and the saints of the Catholic Church.

The subject of the article are methods of documenting parliamentary proceedings in Poland from the moment of its establishment to modern times. The aim of the study is to distinguish individual stages of the functioning of genres documenting parliamentary proceedings and to indicate the factors (political and cultural) influencing the changes taking place within genre patterns and thus enabling the distinction of these stages. The text falls within the scope of linguistic genology from a diachronic perspective. In the first stage of the functioning of the parliament in Poland, private, handwritten diaries of proceedings were prepared, but only over time this task was entrusted to employees of the royal chancellery, and from the second half of the 18th century, diaries were printed. Another form of documenting the proceedings are stenographic reports and parliamentary minutes, which began to be edited in the second half of the 19th century. Currently, in addition to these two forms, “Kronika Sejmowa” and “Kronika Senatu” are also published. The proceedings are also recorded in the form of audio and audiovisual files.

W pierwszym etapie funkcjonowania parlamentu w Polsce sporządzano prywatne, rękopiśmienne diariusze obrad, dopiero z czasem zadanie to powierzono pracownikom kancelarii królewskiej, a począwszy od II połowy XVIII w. diariusze były drukowane. Kolejną formę dokumentowania obrad stanowią sprawozdania stenograficzne i protokoły sejmowe, które zaczęto redagować w II połowie XIX w. Obecnie oprócz tych dwóch form wydawana jest też „Kronika Sejmowa” i „Kronika Senatu”. Dodatkowo obrady są utrwalane w postaci plików audio i audiowizualnych.
