The author of the article intends to discuss the important role of the Roman Catholic Church in the period of political transformation. He claims that a discourse on the shape of the denominational policy at the level of voivodeships is still nonexistent. The purpose of this text is a partial complement of a fundamental gap in research, as well as a detailed description of the relationship between the party elites and the Roman Catholic Church in the Kraków Voivodeship during the transition period. The author claims that the attitudes of the most important PUWP members towards the Roman Catholic Church were ambivalent and essentially based on commands sent from Warsaw. The impact of the Cracowian dignitaries on the shape of the relationship with the Roman Catholic Church resulted from executing tasks on behalf of the higher party structures.

The phenomenon of party system polarization has been relatively neglected in the Czech political science literature so far. Thus, one of the objectives of this article is to present a concise summary of theoretical approaches, analytical practices and research methodology towards party polarization. To analyse party polarization the authors use one of the possible methods, party elite polarization, which Sartori and Sani introduced (1983). The study measures party elite polarization via questions on value self-placement on the L-R scale of the Czech party leaders of the established parties during the General Election Campaign in 2013. Evaluation of the commonly used self-identification techniques and presentation of quantitative results of the party elite polarization during the Czech election in 2013 is therefore the main motive of this article. Using statistical methods the authors fi nd out that not all commonly perceived polarizing issues really prove to polarize party elites.

The aim of the article is to show the multiplicity and diversity of Hungarian ethnic parties existing in the years 1990-1998 within the party system of Slovakia, before the emergence of the Hungarian Coalition Party - Strana mad’arskej koalicie (SMK) in 1998. This text focuses on answering the following questions: (1) who were the parties’ leaders and elites, and whether it is justified to talk about the continuity of personal representation of minorities since 1990; and (2) who voted for different Hungarian minority parties and whether their unification into the SMK brought with it an electoral bonus. An additional aspect of this is the position of the analyzed parties in the competitive system. The text also tries to answer the question of whether the creation of the SMK led to an intensification of the national split within the Slovakian party system.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie wielości i różnorodności partii węgierskich funkcjonujących w latach 1990-1998 w systemie partyjnym Słowacji, a zatem przed powstaniem w 1998 r. Partii Węgierskiej Koalicji - Strana mad’arskej koalicie (SMK).
