Patriotismus ist Liebe zur Heimat, aber in einem sehr wörtlichen und eher "aggressiven" Sinne, weil er sogar mit dem Opfer des eigenen Lebens verbunden ist. Ein solches Verständnis war und ist mit einem extremen Nationalismus verbunden, wo die Nation und das Vaterland Stolz über alles andere bedeuten, während andere Menschen verachtet und gehasst werden. Im Artikel denke ich über die Veränderungen nach, die das Verständnis von Patriotismus durchläuft, ich analysiere, ob dies Veränderungen im Wesen des Konzepts sind, oder ob sie vielleicht ein größeres soziales und kulturelles Bewusstsein der Menschheit erreichen, womöglich auch Veränderungen im Verständnis der Konzepte: Vaterland, Nation, Land. Ich betrachte auch einige Veränderungen im Denken über die Menschheit, über die Identifizierung mit Gemeinschaften, die wir als unseren Wohnort wählen – nicht unbedingt die gleichen Orte, an denen wir geboren wurden – über die Schaffung von Bindungen, über die Verwurzelung in einer bestimmten Gemeinschaft, über die breitere Verfügbarkeit von Informationen über die Menschheit als Ganzes. Ich stelle den Patriotismus auch in den Kontext des Kosmopolitismus, eine Kombination, die in der Philosophie ganz neu und dennoch überzeugend ist, insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit der Schaffung des Gebildes eines kosmopolitischen Patriotismus.

Patriotyzm to miłość do ojczyzny, ale w rozumieniu bardzo dosłownym i raczej „agresywnym”, bo kojarzonym nawet z poświęceniem własnego życia. Takie rozumienie było i jest kojarzone z nacjonalizmem, raczej skrajnym, gdzie naród i ojczyzna to duma ponad wszystko, a inni są w pogardzie i nienawiści. W artykule zastanawiam się nad przekształceniami, jakim ulega rozumienie patriotyzmu; analizuję, czy są to zmiany w samej istocie pojęcia, czy może sięgają większej świadomości społecznej i kulturowej ludzkości, być może zmian także w rozumieniu pojęć: ojczyzna, naród, kraj. Rozpatruję również pewne zmiany w myśleniu o ludzkości, o byciu tożsamym ze społecznościami, które wybieramy do zamieszkiwania – niekoniecznie te same miejsca, gdzie się urodziliśmy – o tworzeniu więzi, zakorzenianiu się w danej wspólnocie, o szerszej dostępności informacji o ludzkości jako całości. Umieszczam też patriotyzm w kontekście kosmopolityzmu, połączenia dość nowego w filozofii, a jednak przekonującego, zwłaszcza w kontekście tworu, jakim jest kosmopolityczny patriotyzm.

Patriotism is the love for one’s homeland and country, but in a very literal and rather aggressive sense. It is associated with sacrificing even one's own life to defend the country. Such an understanding has been - and still is - associated with an extreme species of nationalism, for which one’s own nation is prized above everything and other nations are despised and hated. In this paper I consider transformations, which our understanding of patriotism undergoes today, and whether these are changes in the very essence of the concept and whether they reach a greater social and cultural awareness of humanity as well as, possibly, of the changes in the concepts of homeland, nation, and country. I also consider some changes in the understanding of humanity as all mankind and in the identification with the communities one chooses to live in – not necessarily the same places where one was born – as well as in the understanding of the nature of bonding with a given or a chosen community. Finally, I consider the possibility of cosmopolitan patriotism.
