In the text offered to the reader I made an attempt to re-read the central claim presented in the work of S. de Beauvoir titled The Second Sex through the prism of lessons identified for modern upbringing. The central thesis can be described as follows: the differences between genders are socially and culturally conditioned, yet determined by belonging to biological sex; maternal instinct is culturally shaped; the mother’s attitude towards the child depends on its biological sex; housework is limiting women’s potential and focus on outlook causes fear of old age. The direction of change set by de Beauvoir is the androgynous upbringing of women, changing the model of marriage, conscious motherhood, women’s professional work, and creation of feminine cultural communities.

Language and the processes of understanding the meaning of the concepts we use are of particular interest to scholars of comparative pedagogy, intercultural pedagogy, and other fields dealing with intercultural communication processes. It is also evident that the methodology of comparative pedagogy must include considering the process of understanding, for it is not possible to describe the solutions used in education without understanding the strategies that had led to a certain state of affairs. The article discusses the issue of understanding the meanings of concepts as a necessary methodological procedure of comparative pedagogy. It provides examples of theoretical perspectives on the importance of language as a tool we use to communicate, store and transform information. The article also shows the link between culture and the vocabulary and pragmatics of language and the extra-linguistic possibilities of understanding meanings.

This article is a proposal for the classification of knowledge on the forms of care and education of children and youth. Such classification seems suitable due to the frequent changes in the education system and the system of care for children and their families, which have created many gaps in their overall perception. The article is theoretical, and the following was achieved based on the method of pedagogical hermeneutics: the knowledge about institutions supplementing family functions (cognitive level) was organized and classified; the scope of their activities was described (practical level).

Artykuł stanowi propozycję klasyfikacji wiedzy na temat form opieki i edukacji dzieci i młodzieży. Takie uporządkowanie wydaje się celowe w związku z częstymi zmianami systemu kształcenia i systemu opieki nad dzieckiem i jego rodziną, które spowodowały powstanie wielu luk w ich całościowym postrzeganiu. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczny, opierając się na metodzie hermeneutyki pedagogicznej uporządkowano wiedzę na temat instytucjonalnych form uzupełniających funkcje rodziny (poziom poznawczy), zaproponowano ich klasyfikację oraz opisano zakres działania (poziom praktyczny).
