The objective of the paper is to identify needs, benefits and dilemmas related to the investment made to enhance or restore human capital. The article is built up of two main parts. The first part is a review of literature related to the subject. It aims at presenting a synthesis of knowledge of the term and meaning of human capital and human capital investment. The key dilemmas related to investing in human capital from the perspective of two main players in the labour market (employers and employees) were formulated in the second part. In that second part the need to enhance the resource in Poland was also substantiated. The paper ends with conclusions from the analyses.

Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja potrzeb, pożytków i dylematów związanych z nakładami ponoszonymi na powiększenie lub odtworzenie kapitału ludzkiego. Artykuł składa się z dwóch zasadniczych części. W części pierwszej dokonano przeglądu literatury przedmiotu, by przedstawić syntezę wiedzy na temat pojęcia i znaczenia kpaitału ludzkiego oraz inwestycji w kapitał ludzki. W części drugiej sformułowano podstawowe dylematy związane z inwestowaniem w kapitał ludzki z perspektywy dwóch najważniejszych aktorów rynku pracy, jakimi są pracodawcy i pracobiorcy oraz uzasadniono potrzebę powiększania tego zasobu w Polsce. Artykuł zamykają konkluzje wynikające z przeprowadzonych analiz.
