This communication is a brief reflection on the condition of contemporary Lubuskie regionalism in the perspective of research in the old and contemporary borderlands. The problem it raises calls for broader monographic research. It should be emphasised that the generational changes taking place in Polish and German regionalist circles interested in this area create a substantive and methodological crisis within the emerging publications. Thirty years after the changes and the apparent „renaissance” of regionalism, the question arises as to what direction further research and endeavours will take.

Niniejszy komunikat jest krótką refleksją na temat kondycji współczesnego regionalizmu lubuskiego w perspektywie badań na obszarze dawnego i współczesnego pogranicza. Poruszony w nim problem wymaga szerszych badań monograficznych. Należy podkreślić, że zmiany pokoleniowe, zachodzące w kręgu polskich i niemieckich środowisk regionalistów zainteresowanych tym obszarem, tworzą kryzys merytoryczny i metodologiczny w obrębie powstających publikacji. Trzydzieści lat po zmianach i wyraźnym „renesansie” regionalizmu, powstaje pytanie, w jakim kierunku podążą dalsze badania i przedsięwzięcia.

Artykuł dotyczy relacji polsko-niemieckich w doświadczeniach autorów, którzy w latach dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku i na początku trzeciego tysiąclecia nadesłali pamiętniki na dwa konkursy zorganizowane przez Instytut Socjologii Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego. W związku z tym, że konkursy ogłoszono w odmiennych kontekstach historycznych, politycznych i społecznych, główne pytanie badawcze dotyczyło charakteru opisów relacji polsko-niemieckich w pamiętnikach obu konkursów. W tekście poruszono wybrane problemy badań pamiętnikarskich, odniesiono się do założeń koncepcji pogranicza Z. Kurcza oraz szczegółowo zestawiono różne elementy wspomnień z tych konkursów. Z owych zestawień wynika, że w pierwszym konkursie relacje są nasycone negatywnymi doświadczeniami, a w drugim pozytywnymi. Na podstawie wspomnień z początku XXI wieku należy wnioskować, że obecnie coraz częściej omawiane relacje są oparte na potrzebie normalności, ciekawości i bliskości. W konsekwencji w życiu codziennym następnych pokoleń Polaków i Niemców te wartości mają szanse kreować procesy raczej współpracy niż rywalizacji.

The article is about the Polish-German relations as experienced by the authors who sent their memoirs for two competitions held by the Institute of Sociology, University of Wrocław in the 1990s and at the beginning of the 21st century. Since the competitions were organized in different historical, political and social contexts, the main research question concerned the characteristics of the descriptions of the Polish-German relations in the memoirs sent for both of them. In the article we deal with selected problems of the memoir research, we refer to the foundations of the conception of borderland by Z. Kurcz and we thoroughly set together different elements of the memories which took part in the competitions. It can be inferred from these juxtapositions that the relations present in the first competition are saturated with negative experiences, whereas in the other – with positive ones. On the basis of the memories from the beginning of the 21st century one can infer that nowadays the relations under question are more and more a result of the need for normality, curiosity and closeness. Consequently, in everyday life of the next generations of Poles and Germans these values may create the processes of cooperation rather than rivalry.
