“The yellow duck” attacks: An analysis of the activities of the “Ne da(vi)mo Beograd” initiative in the Serbian public spaceThe main aim of the paper is to present the performative dimension of activities undertaken by the “Ne da(vi)mo Beograd” Initiative. The Initiative’s actions, which initially concerned opposition to the “Belgrade on Water” project, turned into a regular political campaign. These activities clearly illustrate contemporary ways of managing civil opposition, as well as performative practices aimed at creating a civil society. The focus is on verbal and non-verbal practices of expressing resistance, as well as strategies for building a sense of community among the participants of the Initiative’s gatherings.

This article presents the reaction from the MPs of the Legislative Sejm to the involvement of the clergy in political life. Clergymen played a key role in the Legislative Sejm. They strove for a strong position of the Church in the state. Consequently those clergymen often incurred criticism of the parliamentary Left which accused them of playing politics and of being driven by particularistic interests. Frequently, the clergymen were forbidden to perform their priestly duties and they were deprived of their positions. Some MPs demanded decisive action from the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Education, which was demonstrated by numerous interpellations. They believed that the Ministry should put an end to the practice of using religion and Catholic faith to achieve political goals which was also to be facilitated by a top-down ban imposed on all the clergymen. Such a ban would have made it impossible for the clergymen to deliver political speeches in churches. According to MPs, Church was not to be a parliamentary conference room. Those who expressed criticism held one common view − namely that religion and the Church should not be involved in a political fight.

The purpose of the paper is to present the legitimization process of the democratic system at the level of individual citizens - their attitudes and behavior - in the context of the transformations that are occurring in more advanced democracies than Poland. The starting point is provided by the theory of J. J. Linz, who points to the dependence between the stability of the system and legitimization. Next, numerous studies are discussed concerning the symptoms of system legitimization on the individual level in Poland and Western European countries. A hypothesis of the dependence between the transformation of political activities (including increasing unconventional activities) and the degree of legitimization of the system is also tested.
