Author presents arguments, based on the theoretical concepts and other empirical works, for the hypothesis that growing income inequality increases the risk of weakening the legitimacy of a political and economic system: growing income inequalities can lead to real conflicts or cause weakening of democratic institutions by undermining their legitimacy, what can be seen in the decline of a support for the government institutions. Given thesis is illustrated by the results of the analysis of the Polish survey data: people who perceive and negatively evaluate income inequality, present at the same time less favorable opinions on the political and economic system, which authorizes existing inequalities.

The author of this paper analyzes a specific political fact, namely the inauguration of presidency in modern democratic systems. Focusing on the inauguration of Andrzej Duda’s presidency, the author answers the question of whether this extensive range of activities (encompassing the act of swearing in, symbolical acts, presidential address and other speeches) is an element of a consciously created legitimacy claim made by the president-elect. Answering this question in the affirmative, the author illustrates how the claims that refer to all three of Weber’s types of legitimacy are encompassed in the successive parts of the inauguration: the swearing in refers to the legal element of legitimacy, an extensive range of symbolical acts refers to tradition, whereas the presidential address introduces yet another element justifying legitimacy, this timeresulting from the heritage of Lech Kaczyński’s charisma.

W niniejszym artykule autorka analizuje specyficzny fakt polityczny, jakim jest inauguracja prezydentury we współczesnym systemie demokratycznym. Koncentrując się na przykładzie inauguracji prezydentury Andrzeja Dudy, autorka odpowiada na pytanie czy ten rozbudowany zespół działań (złożony z aktu zaprzysiężenia, działań symbolicznych, orędzia i innych przemówień) stanowi element świadomie konstruowanego roszczenia legitymizacyjnego, wysuwanego przez prezydenta- elekta. Odpowiadając pozytywnie na to pytanie, ukazuje ona w jaki sposób roszczenia nawiązujące do wszystkich trzech Weberowskich typów legitymizacji zostały wplecione w poszczególne części inauguracji: zaprzysiężenie zawiera więc legalny element uprawomocniający, bardzo rozbudowany kompleks działań symbolicznych – odwołania do tradycji (II i IV RP), natomiast orędzie – wprowadza kolejny typ uzasadnienia legitymizacyjnego – tym razem wynikającego z roszczenia sukcesji charyzmy po Lechu Kaczyńskim.

This article is in line with a research agenda that raises questions about the relationship between political legitimacy and party system’s regulation in Latin America. In this regard, the identification of the thresholds set to regulate the entry of new political contenders to the electoral arena as well as the analysis of the conditions that facilitate their entry from the sub-national level are presented as indicators that are analysed in this paper in order to test a recent working hypothesis according to which the less legitimate a party system is, the more open it becomes.

El presente artículo se adscribe a una agenda de investigación académica que pone en discusión la relación existente entre la legitimidad política y la regulación del sistema de partidos en América Latina. En este sentido, la identificación de las barreras fijadas para regular el ingreso de nuevos contendientes políticos a la arena electoral, así como el análisis de las condiciones que facilitan su entrada desde el nivel sub-nacional, se presentan como indicadores que en este documento se analizarán a efecto de poder testear una reciente hipótesis de trabajo que sostiene que a menor legitimidad política, mayor apertura del sistema de partidos.

Odwołując się do koncepcji teoretycznych i innych prac empirycznych, autor przedstawia argumenty za tezą, iż narastające nierówności dochodowe zwiększają ryzyko osłabienia legitymizacji systemu polityczno-gospodarczego: mogą skutkować wystąpieniem realnych konfliktów na tle politycznym lub prowadzić do osłabienia instytucji demokratycznych poprzez podważenie ich legitymizacji, czego przejawem bywa spadek poparcia i zaufania do instytucji rządowych. Ilustracją stawianej tezy są wyniki przeprowadzonej analizy danych pochodzących z ostatniej edycji Europejskiego Sondażu Społecznego: osoby, które dostrzegają wokół siebie nierówności dochodowe i zarazem oceniają je negatywnie, prezentują zarazem mniej przychylne opinie na temat ładu polityczno-gospodarczego, który uprawomocnia istniejące nierówności.
