In individual voivodeships, including Olsztyn, the Department of Studies and Analyses of the Security Service Agency was established within the structures of the Voivodeship Office of Internal Affairs. It functioned at the turn of 1989/1990. Eight preserved documents are published below. These are reports prepared by the Department of Studies and Analyses of the Security Service Agency in Olsztyn for the Ministry of the Interior in Warsaw. Currently, these documents are in the archives of the Olsztyn Regional Office of the Institute of National Remembrance and have not been published or even widely known so far. These reports were created during the period of political changes in Poland and constitute an interesting record of the socio-political situation in Warmia and Mazury at that time.

W poszczególnych województwach, w tym także w Olsztynie w strukturach Wojewódzkiego Urzędu Spraw Wewnętrznych powołano Wydział Studiów i Analiz Służby Bezpieczeństwa, który funkcjonował na przełomie lat 1989/1990. Poniżej opublikowano osiem zachowanych dokumentów, którymi są sprawozdania sporządzone przez Wydział Studiów i Analiz Służby Bezpieczeństwa w Olsztynie dla Ministerstwa Spraw Wewnętrznych w Warszawie. Obecnie dokumenty te znajdują się w zasobie archiwalnym olsztyńskiej Delegatury Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej i dotychczas nie były publikowane, ani nawet szerzej znane. Sprawozdania te powstały w okresie przemian ustrojowych w Polsce i stanowią interesujący zapis ówczesnej sytuacji społeczno-politycznej na Warmii i Mazurach.

This article analyses the diaries of Teresa Konarska, a pensioner of landed gentry origins but also a diarist and observer of political life. The selected volumes of journals, written between August 1988 and April 1989, provide an opportunity to study the mentality, opinions and emotions of the intelligentsia’s vision of the social and political world. The authors identify its key elements: politics as the domain of actors, the dichotomous division of the world (party people vs Solidarity people, ‘up to the scratch’ vs fools), a sense of threat, hopelessness and decline. In conclusion, they set this subjective vision within the context of the knowledge of Polish society in the 1980s and the antecedents of the phenomena that became visible in the 1990s.

Artykuł stanowi analizę dzienników Teresy Konarskiej, emerytki o ziemiańskim rodowodzie, a zarazem diarystki i obserwatorki życia politycznego. Wybrane tomy dzienników, powstałe między sierpniem 1988 a kwietniem 1989 r., dają sposobność do studium mentalności, wyobrażeń i emocji inteligenckiej wizji świata społecznego i politycznego. Autorzy wskazują jej kluczowe elementy: politykę jako domenę aktorów, dychotomiczny podział świata (partyjni vs. solidarnościowcy, ludzie na poziomie vs. głupcy), poczucie zagrożenia, beznadziei i schyłku. Konkludując, osadzają tę subiektywną wizję w kontekście wiedzy o polskim społeczeństwie lat osiemdziesiątych oraz antecedencji zjawisk, które stały się widoczne w latach dziewięćdziesiątych.

The article presents personal memories of Professor Aleksander Koj’s alumni. Professor Aleksander Koj was a world-class biochemist of significant scientific achievements, a renowned authority in the field of acute-phase response regulation and acute-phase proteins. He was an excellent academic, a true Master, admired and followed by many Polish biochemists. Thrice he served as the Rector of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. He navigated the University through a difficult time of political transformation in Poland, modernized the management system of the University and led to the commencement of the construction of the new University campus. He was the co-creator and the first Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. He will be remembered as a devoted community worker aiming at strengthening the bond between the Polish community abroad and our homeland, propagating knowledge, promoting the concept of European integration, democracy and tolerance, as well as the collaboration between scientists, artists and men and women of culture. He was wise, righteous, and noble. Many had the honor of calling him their friend, and a great many saw in him a moral authority.
