Władza i politykowanie to terminy zbliżone. Władza jest utajoną zdolnością wpływania na działania, myśli i emocje innych. Politykowanie natomiast odnosi się do użycia władzy i autorytetu, by osiągnąć rezultaty na poziomie organizacji. Prostymi słowy, władza jest potencjalnym wpływem, podczas gdy politykowanie jest jej sprawowaniem (stosowaniem). W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono przede wszystkim procesualne i instytucjonalne spojrzenie na problem władzy. Dyskusja o władzy organizacyjnej skupia się na jej dychotomicznym charakterze i przedmiotem zainteresowania staje się rozważanie czy władza powinna być postrzegana, jako proces interakcji czy jako zinstytucjonalizowane relacje?

Power and organizational politics are closely related concepts. Power has been defined as the latent ability to influence others' actions, thoughts and emotions. Politics, on the other hand, generally refers to the use of power and authority to influence organizational outcomes. In simple terms power is potential of influence, whereas politics is exercise or use of that power. This article seeks firstly to explore the processual and institutional views. The article goes on to address a parallel problem, the neglect of specifically organizational power practices. In this article, the debate on organizational power has reflected this dichotomous view in its concern with whether power should be seen as a process of interaction or as institutionalized relationships.
