The paper discusses the question about the rhetorical function of the stories on prophetic vocation. Assuming their apologetic character, an opinion that dominates in the exegesis based on the historical-critical method, the quest after further goals takes it into account that the text is a testimony to the event of vocation. Applying the narrative method has allowed us to distinguish three different communicative situations written in the description of calling. The last of them is the process of reading in which the ideal prophet meets his ideal listener. Taking this fact into account in the rhetorical analysis has allowed us to grasp some new persuasive aspects of the vocational narration. Its goal is not reduced to the apology of the authority of the prophet or his word. Sharing his experience of calling, the prophet introduces his listeners in a direct contact with the word of God, thus enabling their decision whether to listen or not to listen to his words. In result, the event making the prophecy is re-created and updated in the time and space of the reader.

W konkluzji autor przedstawia swoje refleksje dotyczące długiej i krętej drogi, jaką podążał Newman, formułując podstawowe założenia swojej eklezjologii.

This article explores the development of Newman’s thought on the Church, throughout different phases of his long life. The article focuses, among other themes, on the nature of the Church, the important introduction to his Via Media (1877), the charismatic dimension of the ekklesia, and the respective roles of the pope, the bishops and the laity, in particular what the latter can contribute to the whole People of God. The article also seeks to delve into the question whether one can talk about ecumenism in the writings of the influential nineteenth-century English man of letters and opinion leader. The conclusion offers some final considerations on what Newman underwent during his long and meandering journey with regard to some basic tenets of his ecclesiology.

The article aims to introduce the theological meaning of the rûªḥ in the Book of Ezekiel. The creative activity of God’s spirit is analyzed first in the prophetic call of Ezekiel (Ezek 1–3) and then in the vision of the Valley of Dry Bones (37:1-14). The same expression rûḥî (“my spirit”) in 36:27; 37:14 and 39:29 not only confirms the creative character of God’s spirit, but reveals its status as a hypostasis of God. The inner renewal – possible through God’s spirit – makes vital the manifestation of God on earth, not only to Ezekiel but also to the Israelites.
