The paper consists of two parts – a theoretical and a practical one. The first part presents the contemporary conceptions concerning the category of grammatical gender, and especially the problem of its recognisability on the basis of the form of Nominative singular. The analytical part takes into consideration quantitative and qualitative data regarding feminine nouns in contemporary lexicological works. A detailed analysis has been undertaken particularly with regard to irregular gender forms of the postać (‘figure; character’), noc (‘night’), or krew (‘blood’) type. Moreover, part two also provides suggestions concerning the teaching of irregular gender forms at particular levels of language advancement/command.

Dane na temat liczby szkół w Polsce wskazują na wzrastające zainteresowanie placówkami niepublicznymi, w tym katolickimi. Na podstawie badań jakościowych określono czynniki warunkujące to zjawisko. Szkoły katolickie wyróżniają się panującymi w nich relacjami społecznymi, a sposób pracy dydaktycznej oparty na personalizmie chrześcijańskim zapewnia indywidualne podejście do każdego ucznia. Placówki te charakteryzują się także wysokim poziomem nauczania, co sprawia, że są atrakcyjne nie tylko dla osób wierzących. Rodzice odgrywają znaczącą rolę w szkołach katolickich, są zapraszani do współdecydowania o kształcie placówki, przez co czują się partnerami, a nie petentami w szkole. Ponadto kierownictwo szkoły stara się stwarzać okazje, by rodzice uczniów poznawali się, co wspiera budowanie spójności wychowawczej między domem a szkołą. Przekazywany typ religijności bardziej skupiony jest na promowaniu wspólnotowości, pomaganiu innym niż na rygorystycznym odwoływaniu do zakazów i nakazów.

The article presents the growing interest in private schools, including the Catholic ones. The qualitative research conducted shows factors influencing this phenomenon. Catholic schools offer a certain model of relations among teachers, students and parents. The method of teaching is based on Christian personalism that provides individual attention to each student. These institutions are also characterized by a high level of education, which makes them attractive not only for ‘church goers’. Parents play an important role in Catholic schools, they are invited to take part in school management, which makes them partners rather than supplicants at school. In addition, the school management is trying to create opportunities for parents to get to know each other, therefore educational consistency between home and school is built. The type of religiosity handed down is more focused on community spirit and helping others, rather than maintaining strict rules and prohibitions.
