Związek małżeński Ludwiki Marii Gonzaga z Władysławem IV Wazą wyniósł księżniczkę na szczyt hierarchii społecznej. Postanowienia kontraktów małżeńskich z 1645 i z 1649 roku były bardzo korzystne dla Ludwiki Marii. Wysokość posagu wynosiła 2 100 000 liwrów. Z tej kwoty król Polski otrzymywał 600 000 liwrów. Pozostała suma była do dyspozycji królowej. Ludwika Maria miała otrzymać od Rzeczypospolitej oprawę posagu. Zachowywała ona również prawo do własnego majątku we Francji i w Rzeczypospolitej. Pozycja prawno-majątkowa królowej stwarzała dobrą podstawę dla realizacji jej zamierzeń.
