Combining full-time studying with gainful employment has become popular in many countries, including Poland. The article aims to present a multi-faceted evaluation of its consequences in different countries, with a particular focus on Poland. It reviews the results of a number of relevant studies from different countries and presents the results of the author’s own survey conducted among the students of the University of Economics in Katowice in the years 2014–2017. The survey results allowed for the formulation of conclusions identifying the threats arising from full-time studies combined with employment, for example the effect work has on student performance or imbalance between studying time and free time, which may have an adverse influence on a student’s health. Finally, the author argues that benefits for human capital and a future career are relatively insignificant and consist mainly in improved general competencies.
