Les figures à l’épreuve du silence : cas de la litote et de l’ellipse dans l’œuvre de Georges Perec

In this article, we will analyze the figures of silence such as the “litote” and the syntactic ellipse in the works of Georges Perec in order to understand how they interact with the reader. Indeed, the unspoken create an invisible dialogue with the reader who must reconstruct a meaning from the void: the “litote” and the syntactic ellipse become the support of a writing that refuses to express itself in words. The writing of Georges Perec can only be read in a deviation of language which makes reluctance a unifying principle.

Fillette, chérie, coquine, doudou... the forms of address constitute an important discursive operator of emotional exchanges. Such forms encompass both the expression of tenderness or, quite simply, the mark of affectivity and social and ritual behaviours, giving individuals the possibility of sharing the same experiences. The aim of our study will be primarily to examine the semantic content of the forms of address mobilised in the comic strip story, with an emphasis on those which appeal to non-standard registers of language. First, this approach will allow us to give some paths for reflection on the thematic arrangement around which the terms in question are coined. Next, we will seek to identify and describe the enunciative and pragmatic features of a discourse based on the affective component. More specifically, we will try to analyse the functional values and the expressive dimension of the forms of address favoured by contemporary comics.

Fillette, chérie, coquine, doudou… les formes d’adresse constituent un important opérateur discursif des échanges émotionnels. Elles englobent aussi bien l’expression de la tendresse ou, tout simplement, la marque de l’affectivité, que des comportements sociaux et rituels donnant aux individus la possibilité de partager les mêmes expériences. L’objectif de notre étude sera essentiellement d’examiner le contenu sémantique des formes d’adresse mobilisées dans le récit bédéistique, en mettant l’accent sur celles qui font appel aux registres non-standard de la langue. En premier lieu, cette démarche nous permettra de donner quelques pistes de réflexion sur la disposition thématique autour de laquelle se construisent les termes en question. Ensuite, nous tiendrons à repérer et à décrire les traits énonciatifs et pragmatiques caractéristiques d’un discours basé sur la composante affective. Plus précisément, nous essaierons d’analyser les valeurs fonctionnelles et la dimension expressive des formes d’adresse privilégiées par les bandes dessinées contemporaines.

Le tabou linguistique. Un paradoxe toujours actuel

In this article we tried to extend and clarify some aspects of our previous research concerning the linguistic taboo. We selected examples belonging to the political, social or current speech from communist-era Romanian language, but also to the international vocabulary. We proposed two theoretical criteria of classification of the linguistic taboo. One of them is functional and it reflects the relationship between the cause and the effect involved with the taboo creation. The other is a pragmatic criteria, it is based on the premise that the linguistic taboo could be considerated a speech act and it expresses the relationship between its success and failure. We also identified some paradoxical features of the taboo. As a result, we noticed that a ban language (not saying x) often generates, in response, stylistic loaded words and phrases. There, where it was supposed to be a lack, the vocabulary enriches itself by new words or paraphrases. At the pragmatic level, the full success of the act of prohibition involves the silence. Or, by excellence, the linguistic taboo manifests itself as lexical form.

Dans cet article, nous avons étendu la recherche dans le domaine du tabou linguistique et nous avons rendu plus clairs certains aspects liés à ce sujet, aspects identifiés et présentés, partiellement, dans l’une de nos études précédentes. Pour illustrer notre description théorique, nous avons choisi des exemples appartenant au discours politique et social de la langue roumaine de l’époque communiste, de la langue roumaine actuelle, mais aussi au vocabulaire international. Nous avons proposé deux critères théoriques de classification du tabou linguistique. L’un d’eux est de nature fonctionnelle et il reflète la relation entre la cause et l’effet impliqués dans la création du tabou. L’autre est un critère pragmatique et il repose sur le principe que le tabou linguistique pourrait être considéré comme un acte de discours qui exprime la relation entre son succès et son échec. Nous avons également identifié certaines caractéristiques paradoxales du tabou. En conséquence, nous avons remarqué qu’un langage d’interdiction (ne pas dire x) génère souvent, en contrepartie, des mots et des phrases chargés stylistiquement. D’un côté, là où il était censé être un manque, le vocabulaire s’enrichit de nouveaux mots ou de paraphrases. D’un autre côté, au niveau pragmatique, le succès total de l’acte d’interdiction implique le silence. Or, par excellence, le tabou linguistique se manifeste comme une forme lexicale.

Artykuł ten odnosi siȩ do znaczenia w jego aspekcie pragmatycznym. Analiza przeprowadzona została na podstawie frazeologii rosyjskiej i polskiej zawierającej waloryzację emocjonalną ujemną i dodatnią. Praca ta może być pomocna w rozwiązywaniu problemów związanych z etykietami leksykograficznymi proponując nowy system etykiet ekspresywnych. Autorzy uważają, że waloryzacja emocjonalna może być zdefiniowana w terminach cech względnie obiektywnych. Niniejszy artykuł proponuje również nowy typ klasyfikacji jednostek frazeologicznych mający za podstawę GLT (grupy leksykalno-tematyczne).

The present work investigates the pragmatic aspect of meaning based on Russian and Polish phraseology with positive and negative emotional evaluation. Such kind of investigation helps to resolve various problems with lexicographical marks and create a new improved system of expressive marks. The authors think that the emotional evaluation can be defined with quite objective characteristics. It is offered the new type of classification based on GLT (lexical-thematic groups).

Le présent travail concerne l’aspect pragmatique de la signification. Il est basé sur la phraséologie russe et polonaise qui contient une évaluation émotionnelle négative ou positive. Cette recherche se veut une aide à la résolution de plusieurs problèmes relatifs aux étiquettes lexicographiques en proposant un nouveau système d’étiquettes expressives. Les auteurs considèrent que l’évaluation émotionnelle peut être définie en termes de caractéristiques relativement objectives. Le travail offre un nouveau type de classification des unités phraséologiques basé sur les GLT (groupes lexico-thématiques).

Various manifestations of love are well and truly widespread today on thematic websites which seem to have become essential for effective marketing strategies. Among such web pages, there are very specific portals, namely pages of pornographic content where one can very easily have access to countless photos and videos allowing users to satisfy their appetites. Our analysis is based on a corpus for which we have obtained and examined variational non-standard diastratic material, that is to say, one hundred erotic biographies of homo- and bisexual X-rated actors gathered on the French-speaking site: https://www.videosxgays.com/ The objective of our study is to see more closely how the contemporary French language, and more precisely its linguistic variety linked to the social implantation of users, speaks of physical love during a time of obsession with body image, reinforced by new technologies.

Diverses manifestations de l’amour sont aujourd’hui bel et bien répandues sur les sites Internet thématiques qui semblent être devenus indispensables à des stratégies de marketing efficaces. Parmi de telles pages web, il existe des portails bien particuliers, à savoir les pages à contenus pornographiques où l’on peut très facilement avoir accès à d’innombrables photos et vidéos permettant aux utilisateurs de satisfaire des appétits charnels fort différents. Notre analyse s’appuie sur un corpus pour lequel nous avons saisi et examiné un matériau variationnel diastratique relevant du non-standard, c’est-à-dire une centaine de biographies érotiques d’acteurs X homo- et bisexuels rassemblées sur le site francophone : https://www.videosxgays.com/ L’objectif de notre étude est de voir de plus près comment la langue française contemporaine, et plus précisément sa variété linguistique liée à l’implantation sociale des utilisateurs, parle de l’amour physique à l’époque du culte du corps conforté par l’utilisation de nouvelles technologies.

This article analyses the translation of pragmatic texts within the publishing industry. It hopes to shed light on an overlooked area of translation that students find disorientating. In this context, the text becomes perfectible raw material. It is further defined by its inscription within a layout which disrupts its linearity; both facts are going to influence the phrasing of the translation. Their author’s status is discussed because it leads to a reassessment of the notion of fidelity. This article ends with advice for inexperienced translators and with an invitation to go beyond the traditional dualities inherited from literary translation to grasp pragmatic translation.

Cet article analyse la traduction de textes pragmatiques dans le contexte de l’édition pour répondre aux questions d’étudiants désorientés par cet aspect du métier et jeter quelques lumières sur une pratique méconnue. Devenus simple matière première perfectible, ces textes se caractérisent par leur inscription dans une maquette qui va influer sur le travail de traduction d’un ensemble de pavés de textes hiérarchisés. L’examen du statut de leur auteur amène à réévaluer la notion de fidélité. Quelques conseils, invitant à dépasser les clivages traditionnels hérités de la traduction littéraire pour aborder la « traduction pragmatique » viennent clore la discussion.

In the context of the quantitative shift in the translation field, both pragmatic and legal, this article aims to return to the role of interpretation and meaning concepts and to place them back at the centre of legal translation concerns. Starting from the observation of the necessity of interpretation, it is a question of highlighting the social anchoring of any translation as an act of communication and the inadequacy of the paradigm of equivalence (Sandrini, 2017) which results from it. Based on Schütz’s theory, the concepts of relevance and stock of knowledge and their role in translation will be highlighted (Schütz, 2004b). Finally, the outlines of a practical method of translation based on relevance and usage (Wittgenstein, 2004) will be outlined.

W związku ze zjawiskiem przesunięcia ilościowego w dziedzinie tłumaczeń, zarówno w kontekście tłumaczenia pragmatycznego, jak i prawnego, niniejszy artykuł ma na celu powrót do roli takich podstawowych pojęć jak interpretacja i sens oraz umieszczenie ich w centrum rozważań na temat tłumaczenia prawnego. Wychodząc od konieczności interpretacji, w artykule uwypuklono społeczne zakotwiczenie tłumaczenia jako aktu komunikacji i wynikającej z niego niedoskonałości paradygmatu równoważności (Sandrini, 2017). W oparciu o teorię Schütza podkreślono koncepcje dotyczące sensu i zasobu wiedzy, a także ich rolę w tłumaczeniu (Schütz, 2004b). W końcowej części artykułu przedstawiono natomiast zarys praktycznej metody tłumaczenia opartej na pojęciu sensu (Schütz) i użycia (Wittgenstein, 2004).

Dans le contexte du tournant quantitatif amorcé dans le domaine de la traduction, tant pragmatique que juridique, le présent article vise à revenir sur le rôle des notions d'interprétation et de sens et à les replacer au centre des préoccupations de la traduction juridique. À partir du constat de la nécessité de l’interprétation, il s’agit de mettre en exergue l’ancrage social de toute traduction en tant qu’acte de communication et le caractère inadéquat du paradigme de l’équivalence (Sandrini, 2017) qui en résulte. À partir de la théorie de Schütz, les notions de pertinence et de stock de connaissances ainsi que leur rôle en traduction seront mises en évidence (Schütz, 2004b). Enfin, les contours d’une méthode pratique de la traduction fondée sur la pertinence et l’usage (Wittgenstein, 2004) seront esquissés.
