The article entitled “The Principle of Presumption of Innocence and Its Realization in the Polish Daily Newspapers” concerns one of the vital matters of today’s market of information media. The article concerns the most important points of my master’s thesis, entitled in a similar manner. The article consists of four distinctive parts. The first one defines the idea of presumption of innocence, one of the principles of the Polish legal system. The second part concentrates on the relationship between information media and the presumption of innocence. This part not only comprises a description of processes that can infl uence the realization of the aforementioned principle but it also presents the results of the scientific research of the problem that has been undertaken until the present day. The third part concerns a similar research that I undertook during the writing of my graduation thesis – the article gives only a summary of this process. The research concentrates on four daily newspapers, two of which are viewed as tabloids, in the timespan of four constructed weeks. The image of negative phenomena occurring on the pages of today’s newspapers, which results from the research, is far from ideal and can even induce a feeling of discomfort. The fourth and final part of the article is a form of analysis of the specific language used by the Polish tabloids. The citations from the selected issues of the newspapers are, in my opinion, the best examples of this characteristic language, which can even be described as a specific dialect.

Cultural Capital of the Audience and the Graphic Form of Press AdvertisementsThis article attempts to empirically verify the theory of aesthetic taste formulated by Pierre Bourdieu. The research material consists of press advertisements. 2140 advertisements from five nationwide magazines aimed at different audiences were analyzed using the content analysis technique, which was enriched with qualitative elements. The analysis was conducted from August 2012 to September 2013. The article is part of a larger research project analyzing the aesthetics of Polish press advertisements. Results of the analysis indicate that the hypotheses, which can be derived from Bourdieu’s work, are accurate. Advertisements addressed to people with higher levels of cultural capital are simpler in relation to the form, and they often refer to global culture (they avoid local contexts). Moreover, this type of advertising is likely to take place in the city and people presented there, as opposed to advertising addressed to poorer and less educated people, are not the average people as they usually appear with the attributes of social prestige.

Reviews and book advertisments in women’s Zwierciadło (2001–2003)Connections between the press and the book are known since the end of XVII century. Information about literature appeared in journals in different forms. In the beginning, these notices were mainly publisher advertisements and editorial reviews. Then, papers started to print episodic novels, stories, and poetry. Today, when book has to compete with other means of mass media including the Internet, the promotion of literature seems to be especially important. In this paper, two basic forms of book information are presented: reviews and editorial advertisements published in the magazine Zwierciadło between 2001 and 2003.

This article, basing on an example of analysis of the press colportage’s organization, is a consideration of the local Polish Workers’ Party machine’s efficiency in Lublin voivodeship 1946-1948. During this period, the colportage was formed inaptly and with difficulties, showing a number of the biggest party’s problems during the struggle for power in post-war Poland. Problems such as insufficient numbers of educated personnel, incompetency, the lack of people’s support and a wastefulness of resources for printing press that wasn’t even read, were not resolved until the party began to achieve the monopoly for power, which enabled it to manage unhampered (both materially and competitively) activities.
