The Museum carries on many-sided activities in the field of preservation of historical monuments. The range of tasks of it» Preservation Department covers the developing of the new and also improving the existing methods chiefly related to metal, wet wood, glass and textiles preservation as well as those applied in excavations and preservation of archaeological discoveries. In the same department models and archaeological preparations are manufactured to meet the requirements of schools and other museums in the country. In addition, a special centre is responsible for training of experts skilled in preparation of archaeological objects designed for servicing museums at the all-country scale. Well equipped laboratories in the Archaeological Chemistry Department are conducting a lot of research work specialising mainly in preservation of1 iron. Within the same Department exists a card file containing some 6,500 references from the field of archaeological chemistry and the author himself is publishing the bibliography of the subject.
