The subject matter of this discussion is the issue of fixed structures of prison pastoral care in Poland. The author pointed out that although the Catholic pastoral care is present in all prisons, there are no legally binding regulations governing the pastoral care status. This may compromise the exercise of individual religious freedom of the inmates and the status of chaplains. A similar concern may also be expressed by the followers of other religions held in prisons. In addition, the article highlights the limited effectiveness of pastoral councils at the prison headquarters and in the field, as well as indicates the consequent danger of limiting the freedom of conscience and religion of persons deprived of their liberty.

The paper deals with a new method of assistance for prisoners based on the salutogenetic concept of Aaron Antonovsky. Specific components of the author of the sense of coherence theory proposal were analyzed in order to find their application in the generally accepted social rehabilitation, with particular emphasis on the role of the priest’s pastoral care and educational work. The research focused on identifying the goals of prisoner ministry, the specifics of the environment of seclusion and the concept of salutogenesis. Based on the results obtained, new remedial strategies were proposed.

W publikacji opisano nowe perspektywy pomocy osobom odbywającym karę pozbawienia wolności w oparciu o koncepcję salutogenetyczną Aarona Antonovsky’ego. Analizie poddane zostały poszczególne elementy wymienione przez autora konstruktu poczucia koherencji, które mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w szeroko pojętej resocjalizacji, ze szczególnym podkreśleniem roli duszpasterstwa więziennego oraz pracy wychowawczej. Badania skupiły się na określeniu celów duszpasterstwa więziennego, specyfiki środowiska odosobnienia oraz koncepcji salutogenezy. Na podstawie otrzymanych wyników zaproponowane zostały nowe strategie naprawcze.
