The paper discusses certain motifs common to the novels of Alfred Kubin and Jan Weiss. The author analyses symbolic domains of the plot, referring among others to the gnostic thought, the theory of utopia, or psychoanalysis. She emphasises the intertextuality of the novels discussed, which constitutes a kind of a game with the recipient in which the authors demonstrate the demiurgical aspects of reality.

Artykuł przed stawia wspólne motywy powieści Alfreda Kubina i Jana Weissa. Autorka analizuje przestrzenie symboliczne fabuły, odwołując się m.in. do myśli gnostyckiej, torii utopii, psychoanalizy. Zwraca uwagę na intertekstualność omawianych powieści, będącą swego rodzaju grą z odbiorcą, poprzez którą obaj autorzy ukazują demiurgiczne wymiary rzeczywistości.

The subject of this review is 'Przestrzenie Wacława Potockiego', a book by Krystyna Krawiec-Złotkowska, which takes up the problematics of genre and subject in the poet’s writings in the context of tradition. The reviewer notes the well thought-out, systematised structure of the study as well as the attempts at organizing the huge area of intertextual entanglements of Potocki’s work. She emphasizes also an open character of the study, which suggests that the research undertaken by Krawiec-Złotkowska should be continued.

The article offers a summary of a number of approaches to contemporary humanities in which the main dynamics of research and methodology could be characterised as emancipation. The humanities is seen here not merely as an open discipline, but it is viewed as a method of research able of accepting its relational and indeterminate progress. The soft dimension of its analysis, which is also rooted in an individual biography of the researcher, results from a particular attention paid to other than human subjects. In particular, the humanities related to digital culture and virtual reality needs to redefine its research methods but also communicate with other sources of perception and experience. This relational nature of contemporary humanities in which it reflects the complexity of multiple subjects and perspectives challenges more traditional positions of analysis but simultaneously offers a chance of development.

Artykuł stanowi podsumowanie kilku sposobów rozumienia współczesnej humanistyki, której zasadniczą cechą pozostaje aspekt emancypacyjny oraz jej charakter relacyjny. Humanistyka postrzegana jest w tym kontekście nie tylko jako dyscyplina nauki zdominowana przez otwartość, ale przede wszystkim jako metodologia akceptująca własną nieostateczność. Ten element miękkiej strategii badawczej, w której ważnym aspektem refleksji pozostaje również doświadczenie osoby badającej, obecny jest w tych dziedzinach humanistyki, które łączą się z szeroko rozumianym obszarem kultury cyfrowej oraz wirtualnej rzeczywistości. Humanistyka badająca kulturę cyfrową zmuszona jest do redefinicji własnych narzędzi, a także do uznania innych podmiotów stanowiących źródło doświadczenia. Ten relacyjny charakter humanistyki, w którym ewoluuje ona ku wielości podmiotów i perspektyw badawczych stanowi zarówno wyzwanie, przed którym stają współcześni humaniści, jak i szansę dalszego rozwoju tej gałęzi nauki.

W artykule omówiono strukturę czasoprzestrzeni w powieści „Ptaki i gniazda” wybitnego białoruskiego pisarza Janki Bryla. Zwrócono uwagę na wpływ kategorii czasu i przestrzeni na oś konstrukcyjną i fabularną utworu. Współistnienie dwóch płaszczyzn czasu i przestrzeni (życie i wspomnienia Alesia Runiewicza) było uwarunkowane fabularno-kompozycyjną strukturą powieści i pozwoliło wielopłaszczyznowo odsłonić świat wewnętrznych przeżyć głównego bohatera.

The author of the article analyzes time-spacial structure of the novel “Birds and Nests” written by an eminent Belarusian writer Yanka Bryl. It is emphasized that time and space influence structural and storyline axes of the book. Coexistence of these two layers (life and memories of Ales Runevich) was conditioned by the structure and storyline, and enabled to show the main heroe’s mental experiences.
