Psychiatryczna terminologia zawiera opisy kilkunastu zaburzeń osobowości. Osobowość psychopatyczną wyróżnia w tym gronie to, że charakteryzujące ją cechy bezpośrednio wiążą się zachowaniami sprzecznymi z przyjętymi przez społeczeństwo normami i zasadami. W ciągu minionego wieku rozumienie osobowości psychopatycznej zmieniało się. Po pierwsze (1) przestawano ją rozumieć wyłącznie jako osobowość przestępczą, a zaczęto ujmować bardziej subtelnie i jako występującą w populacji ogólnej. Po drugie (2) w klasyfkacjach chorób i zaburzeń zastąpiono ją osobowością antyspołeczną lub dyssocjalną. W końcu po trzecie (3), współcześnie osobowość psychopatyczną ujmuje się częściej w kategoriach cechowych i intensywnie bada empirycznie, na przykład jako część tak zwanej Ciemnej Triady osobowości. W artykule przedstawimy zarówno „klasyczne” rozumienie psychopatii, jak i późniejsze, nowsze ujęcia tego rodzaju osobowości, kończąc na prezentacji najnowszej propozycji opublikowanej w alternatywnej sekcji III podręcznika DSM-5 Amerykańskiego Towarzystwa Psychiatrycznego. The psychopathic personality is distinguished in this group by the fact that the characteristics that characterize it are directly related to behaviours that are contrary to the norms and principles adopted by society. Over the past century, understanding of the psychopathic personality has changed. Firstly (1) it was meant to be understood only as a criminal personality, and began to be treated more subtly and as occurring in the general population. Secondly, (2) in the classifcations of diseases and disorders, it was replaced by an antisocial or dissocial personality. Finally, thirdly (3), contemporary psychopathic personality is more often recognized in guild categories and intensively researches empirically, for example as part of the so-called Dark Triad of personality. In the article, we will present both the “classic” understanding of psychopathy, as well as later, newer concepts of this kind of personality, ending with the presentation of the latest proposal published in the alternative section III of the DSM-5 manual of the American Psychiatric Association.

Czynniki związane z etiologią i rozwojem osobowości psychopatycznej wciąż stanowią obszar intensywnych badań przedstawicieli różnych dyscyplin naukowych. Szczególne miejsce w tych rozważaniach zajmuje poznanie skutków dla zdrowia fizycznego i psychicznego osób pozostających w relacji z psychopatami natomiast zdecydowanie mniej badań dotyczy zdolności osób psychopatycznych do osiągania i wykorzystania własnych możliwości psychicznych, fizycznych i społecznych do adekwatnego reagowania na wyzwania środowiska w kontekście szeroko pojętego zdrowia. W badaniach zdrowia psychicznego można spotkać próby uporządkowania szerokiego wachlarza stosowanych miar zaburzeń zdrowia poprzez wprowadzenie podziału na dwie zasadnicze kategorie, określane jako wskaźniki eksternalizacyjne (externalizing) i internalizacyjne (internalizing). Pierwsza z tych grup obejmuje zachowania związane z agresją, przemocą, łamaniem norm życia społecznego, zachowania przestępcze, używanie substancji psychoaktywnych. Druga grupa wskaźników opisuje problemy wewnętrzne, emocjonalne, głównie zaburzenia depresyjne i lękowe, nadmierny stres i inne problemy. Dlatego też niniejszy artykuł ma na celu z jednej strony wskazanie czynników, które powszechnie uznaje się za czynniki ryzyka rozwoju i kształtowania się osobowości psychopatycznej, z drugiej zaś przedstawienie analizy relacji pomiędzy wskaźnikami internalizacyjnymi i eksternalizacyjnymi.

The factors associated with etiology and development of psychopathic personality still form the area of intensive research performed by the representatives of various scientific disciplines. A very particular place in these deliberations is taken by the cognition of effects on physical and mental health concerning the people remaining in the relationship with psychopaths; while on the contrary, significantly less research concerns the abilities of psychopaths to achieve and use their own mental, physical and social possibilities to respond adequately to environmental challenges in the context of widely understood health. In the research on mental health one can notice the attempts to organize a wide range of used measurements of health disorders via the introduction of a division into two main categories, referred to as externalizing and internalizing indicators. The first group includes the behaviours connected with aggression, violence, violation of social norms, criminal behaviours or the use of psychoactive substances. Another group of indicators describes internal and emotional problems, mainly depression and anxiety disorders, excessive stress and other problems. Therefore, this paper aims at identifying factors which are commonly recognized as risk factors of formation and development of a psychopathic personality. It also intends to introduce the analysis of relation between externalizing and internalizing indicators.

Cechy człowieka posiadającego osobowość psychopatyczną przez wieki były potępiane przez społeczeństwo, natomiast współcześnie zaczynają być pożądane, a sam psychopata może stać się człowiekiem sukcesu. Samo słowo ,,psychopatia” ma pejoratywny wydźwięk, wobec czego trudno uwierzyć, że są to osoby mające wachlarz cech pozytywnych. Media odpowiadają za wykreowanie tak negatywnego ich obrazu, że nie dziwi fakt, iż większość ludzi nie wie, że znaczna część psychicznych właściwości, które posiadają psychopaci, jest przez społeczeństwo ponowoczesne pożądana. Są to na przykład: umiejętność manipulacji, powierzchowny czar, wysokie poczucie własnej wartości, bezwzględność, brak wyrzutów sumienia. Cechy te charakteryzują nie tylko psychopatów, ale również polityków, przywódców czy ludzi biznesu.

For centuries people with psychopatic personality traits were condemned by sociaty. Nowadays, these traits are becoming desirable and the psychopath can be man of succes. The very word 'psychopath' has a pejorative connotaion, and in this situation it is dfficult to belive that they are people with a wide range of positive character traits. The media are responsible for create this.negative image, and it is not suprising that most people are unaware that a significant part of the psychopath's traits are desirable in the post-modern society. These are, for example. the ability to manipulate, superficial charm, high self-esteem, ruthlessness, and lack of remorse. These traits are possessed not only bypsycopaths, but also politicians, leaders and businessmen.
