Eye injuries are one of the main causes of serious visual impairment, especially in men of productive age, whose ability to work and quality of life are thus negatively affected. Eye trauma is a very dramatic and sudden cause of loss of sight, which is why it is so feared and – for many patients – literally shocking. This paper focuses on eye injuries on a general level. It points out several psychosocial aspects related to this traumatic event. It presents the results of monitoring and a questionnairebased survey of 29 respondents with severe eye injuries treated between 1. 9. 2007 and 31. 8. 2009.

The study aimed to test the first two stages of the simplified model of emergency education (elaborated by P. Aguilar, G. Retamal, and K. Triplehorn) under martial law conditions on the relatively safe territory of Ukraine. The study embraced 52 children from internally displaced families, 6 teachers, 3 practical psychologists and 12 pedagogical university students. Work with children was organised by students’ self-government members under the guidance of pedagogical teachers and professional psychologists. Based on the emergency education model, the authors developed a method of organising recreational therapy for internally displaced school-aged children evacuated from war zones. In order to assess the effectiveness of the organised activities, the «Test of differential self-assessment of functional state» was used to determine the level of children’s indices of well-feeling, activity and mood (WAM-questionnaire). The results of the surveys before and after the experiment showed that the developed method of organising the recreational therapy of internally displaced children contributed to significant positive changes in their emotional, psychological and functional state. The reported redistribution of indices clearly illustrates the significance of those changes.

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health - ICF, endorsed by the World Health Assembly in 2001, is a base for evaluation of functional abilities and psycho-senso-motoric potential among people with disabilities. The EU states accepted this classification as a basic philosophy and politics of rehabilitation in the EU and as an instrument of inclusion. The classification was published in the Czech translation in 2008 but has not been much used in practice. The aim of the article is to inform colleagues from the field of psychology about the classification, for they may encounter it in a multidisciplinary work in the context of somatic diseases and especially in work with mentally ill people.

Mezinárodní klasifikace funkčních schopností, disability a zdraví - MKF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health – ICF), schválená roku 2001 Světovým zdravotním shromáţděním, je základem k hodnocení funkčních schopností a psychosenzomotorického potenciálu osob s disabilitou.
