The article focuses on the global problem of linguistic internationalism represented mainly by the influence of English loan words on modern languages. Also Italian, in spite of its long tradition as the language of art, music or the greatest Renaissance geniuses has had to defend its own identity against the huge attack of unnecessary and snobbish use of English. Paradoxically, the loan words are brought into Italian by journalists and politicians - the two communities that should pick the originally English words fit for the Italian language more carefully. Moreover, the article shows the different points of view, opinions and polemics between the liberal and the purist wing of authoritative linguistics (the Italian and the Slovak one) as regards the question of linguistic globalization.
