The aim of this article is to provide a broader look at the issue of social innovations through the prism of the possibilities of their creation and implementation in socially responsible organisations. The author of the article presumes that the ability to innovate in the area of labour market organisations implementing the model of corporate social responsibility is higher than in organisations not functioning on the basis of social responsibility.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję innowacji społecznych oraz ich znaczenie dla rozwoju miast. Innowacje społeczne są tutaj rozumiane jako innowacyjne rozwiązania, nowe formy organizacji oraz nowe rodzaje powiązań, których celem jest rozwiązanie problemu społecznego. W szczególności skupiono się na nowych formach współpracy pomiędzy administracją miejską, innymi interesariuszami oraz obywatelami, które służyć mają budowaniu bardziej zrównoważonych, prężnych i otwartych systemów w ramach miast. Zaprezentowane zastosowania innowacji społecznych w miastach Göteborg, Mediolan oraz Edynburg to przykłady przełomowych i unikatowych systemów zarządzania miastem na miarę XXI w. i jego wyzwań.

This paper looks at social innovations from the cities’ perspective. Social innovation is intended here to mean innovative solutions, new forms of organisation and new interactions to tackle social issues. In particular, it focuses on innovative solutions in terms of the governance of cities: new forms of collaboration between the city administration, citizens and local stakeholders, which can generate more sustainable, resilient and open systems at the city level. City administrations are facing a whole range of challenges on the social, environmental and economic fronts. Still, Göteborg, Milan and Edinburgh offer unique examples of a breakthrough governance that is responding to the challenges of the 21st century.
