Rapid changes in different spheres of social life (especially the commercialization of science, the digitalization of data, and the explosion of social media) have recently influenced definitions of research situations and approaches to findings in the social sciences. While various new standards from the natural sciences have been implemented, research situations have also been shaped by circumstances related to wider cultural changes, that is, by a sort of a cultural shift, especially in the sphere of new media communication. All these phenomena have revived the discussion of ethical issues. This article analyzes the current methodological status of biographical research as part of a professional ethic construed as the systematic exploration of the methodology used bybiographical researchers and the need for constant reflection on the research process. The article is devoted to different areas that may be associated with ethical concerns: the relationship between a researcher and an interviewee; problems related to the consequences of digital archiving; the proper style of doing research when there are strong expectations that the results will be disseminated; the possible consequences of using informed consent with the illusory expectation that it removes ethical dilemmas; and the practices leading to a professionalization of ethics.

The 2015 migration crisis can be viewed from various perspectives. One of them is the social level, which in this paper refers to the attitude of a country’s inhabitants to the issue of refugees. Here, Poles comprise such a society. Generally, Poles’ attitude to others, according to comparative studies in the period 2002–2012, was positive. Among Europeans, Poles occupied relatively high positions in terms of tolerance towards those that would seek refuge or decide to live in their country. Sample surveys also showed relatively more sympathetic attitudes of Poles to others compared to other societies within the Visegrad Group. Quantitative studies conducted in 2015 show that compared to other societies, Poles still present relatively sympathetic attitudes to incomers. However, if we analyse changes of attitudes compared to the previous survey, we can see that Poles are increasing closed to foreigners and unwilling to accept them.

A characteristic feature of the morphology of Masurian cities, except the historic architecture and spatial layouts, is the significant scale of destruction of World War II and the legacy of socialist reconstruction. After 1989, in the new social and economic realities, renewal actions were taken. The main aim of the article, apart from the characteristics of the revitalisation and revalorisation of the studied towns, is to learn the opinions of their inhabitants about these processes. Six Masurian towns with different scale of war damage, forms of reconstruction and renewal were selected for analysis. The main analytical material are in-depth interviews with the inhabitants. The respondents positively assess the gradual improvement of the aesthetics and functionality of urban space, at the same time drawing attention to spatial disorder, the effects of the socialist period spatial plannig and contemporary barriers to development.

Quality sociologists and culture anthropologists comparatively rarely examine the question of a lie. It is more often the concern of research by psychologists mainly by means of quantity methods. It seems to be resulting from some difficulties in the research itself which is connected with the accurate recognition of a lie. The article discusses the abovementioned difficulties and at the same time it points to the possibilities to overcome them based on chosen quality research concerning lie. It further stresses some advantages arising from the analysis of the question in the quality frame, based on research carried out in Catholic Centre of Crisis Intervention for women at risk of prostitution or those who strive to stop prostituting.

Socjolodzy jakościowi i antropolodzy kultury stosunkowo rzadko badają zagadnienie kłamstwa.
