A long history of the City Hall in Poznań begins at the turn of the 13th century, however, its present architectural forms, ais a consequence of several re constructions, are to be dated as far back as to the sixteenth and seventeenth century. The restoration of façades was carried out in 1*973 by the Poznań Branch of the Ateliers for Conservation of Cultural Property, a state-owend company, who have cleaned the plastered façades. The method applied for that work consisted in the use of grinding wheels containing the finely granulated corundum whose tiny grains are perfectly cleaning all kinds of dirt while they themselves drop out from the wheel body. The dust -remaining on the surface w as removed with the use of brushes thus enabling to avoid its rinsing with water and then impregnated with silicone -solution. Such cleaning can be done easily even during the winter period. It has been found that the plastered surfaces recover, as an effect of the above described process, their bright colouring and they retain their original strength.
