The reflections at hand are part of the modern discourse on the social approach to disability, where special attention is paid to the issue of citizenship and the realization of the rights of people with disabilities, including children. This article on the implementation of the rights of children with disabilities is to show, first of all, how Poland implements the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the light of periodic reports on the implementation of the Convention. The analysis of the opinions of children with disabilities and their disability is to show how they understand the rights of the child that are most important to them and what are the barriers to implementing these rights in everyday life. The theoretical framework of the analysis is the basic thesis of the broader social-relational theories of disability with regard to the rights-based approach, as well as the modern concept of childhood.

Podjęte rozważania wpisują się we współczesny dyskurs w społecznym podejściu do niepełnosprawności, gdzie zwraca się szczególną uwagę na kwestię obywatelstwa i realizacji praw osób niepełnosprawnych, w tym także dzieci. Prezentowany artykuł dotyczący realizacji praw dziecka z niepełnosprawnością ma za zadanie pokazać przede wszystkim, jak Polska realizuje Konwencję ONZ o prawach dziecka w świetle okresowych sprawozdań z wykonywania konwencji. Zaś analiza opinii dzieci pełno- i niepełnosprawnych ma przedstawić, w jaki sposób one same rozumieją prawa dziecka, które są dla nich najważniejsze, a także jakie istnieją bariery w realizacji tych praw w codziennym funkcjonowaniu. Teoretyczne ramy prowadzonych analiz stanowią podstawowe tezy poszerzonej społeczno-relacyjnej teorii niepełnosprawności z uwzględnieniem podejścia opartego na prawach człowieka (the rights-based approach), a także nowoczesnej koncepcji dzieciństwa.
