The paper is devoted to literary representations of an experience of living in Hlučín Region, which is regarded as a synecdoche of the Upper Silesian borderland. Several short stories from a collection named The Heritage (Dědictví) by Eva Tvrdá are analysed in the paper. The author employs voice metaphors (muted – domi- nant; heterolossia – monoglossia), while discussing some experiences, phenom- ena, and survival strategies important to both, the Hlučín Region and the short stories by Eva Tvrdá.
