At the end of the XX century significant changes in the rehabilitation practice took place. The traditional, medical model of rehabilitation was replaced with the social model. The development of rehabilitation practice required modifications in the approach to the problems of the handicapped. Therefore, the article discusses the results of research which defined life problems experienced currently by the handicapped. As a consequence of the conducted analysis, a proposition has been presented which suggests that the process of adjusting to disability should be interpreted as an individual and linear sequence of changes which lead to varied rehabilitation outcomes. On the basis of this model the article proposes specific principles of influencing psychologically the handicapped in order to increase their involvement in the rehabilitation process.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie czytelnikowi problemu niepełnosprawności i znaczenia rehabilitacji w jej zapobieganiu w ujęciu historycznym, tj. od starożytności aż do chwili obecnej. Zobrazowanie zmian, jakie zaszły w ubiegłym stuleciu, pozwala zauważyć, że niepełnosprawność nie jest już postrzegana jako problem jednostkowy osoby, która w celu poprawy zdrowia i stanu funkcjonalnego wymaga diagnostyki, leczenia i rehabilitacji. Autorki zwracają również uwagę, że Polska Szkoła Rehabilitacji, ukształtowana w latach 50. i 60. XX w., powinna być kontynuowana w myśl kompleksowego i zespołowego postępowania w odniesieniu do osób chorych i niepełnosprawnych.

The purpose of this article is acquainting the reader with the problem of disability i.e. from antiquity to our times. The picture of changes that happened in the previous century allows to note that disability is no longer perceived as an individual problem of a person who needs diagnosing, treatment, and rehabilitation to improve his/her health and functioning ability. The authors also remark that the Polish School of Rehabilitation formed in the years 50s and 60s of the 20th century should be continued with the idea of complex and group acting with regard to sick and disabled persons.

Niniejszy tekst stanowi spostrzeżenia zawodowego kuratora sądowego dla osób dorosłych na kwestię współpracy instytucjonalnej podejmowanej w ramach wykonywanych czynności. Autor przedstawia podmiot i przedmiot oddziaływań kuratora sądowego. Omawia czynności niezbędne dla prawidłowego przebiegu procesu resocjalizacji. Przedstawia obowiązki kuratora sądowego spoczywające na nim przy sprawowaniu dozorów. Wskazuje obowiązujące akty prawne i umocowanie czynności w obowiązującym stanie prawnym. Przedstawiając kolejne zadania, do których należą m.in. czynności kontrolne, działania wychowawcze i motywacyjne, diagnostyczne i weryfikacyjne, a także dyscyplinujące lub penalizacyjne, wskazuje podmioty, których pomoc jest niezbędna dla prawidłowego ich wykonywania. Wymienione zadania to świadome i intencjonalne działania kuratora sądowego podejmowane w procesie resocjalizacji i społecznej readaptacji dozorowanych. Podejmowane one są przy zachowaniu podmiotowości i indywidualności osoby dozorowanej, adekwatnie do możliwości percepcyjnych i intelektualnych podopiecznego, a także do jego właściwości psychicznych. Autor wskazuje, że prowadzenie pracy resocjalizacyjnej przez kuratora sądowego, bez współpracy z innymi instytucjami byłoby niemożliwe, gdyż przeczyłoby ogólnym i elementarnym zasadom probacji. Współpraca kuratora sądowego z innymi instytucjami stanowi nierozłączny i integralny aspekt pracy wychowawczo-resocjalizacyjnej, realizowanej w środowisku otwartym.

This text is the observation of the adult’s probation officer about institutional cooperation done as pa part of actions he made. The author presents the subject and the object of the actions of probation officers. He also discusses the actions that are necessary for the rehabilitation process to be effective. Presents duties of the probation officers. Shows the current legal instruments and routines established according to the civil code. By means of duties such as inspection, education, motivation and also diagnostical, verifying, disciplinary and penal actions, the author points at subjects that are necessary for the help to be effective. The tasks, that are done during rehabilitation process and social readaptation of the supervised, are conscious and intentional actions of the probation officers. They are done by means of attaining the subjectivity and individuality of the supervised. They are also adequate to their perceptual, intellectual and mental abilities. The author emphasized the fact that rehabilitation process would not be possible without the cooperation with other institutions as it would contradict the general and fundamental rules of the probation process. The cooperation, that is done in an open environment, is inseparable and integral aspect of educational-rehabilitation work.

Treści tego artykułu wprowadzają w zagadnienie ujmowania koncepcji człowieka, istoty niepełnosprawności oraz wzajemnych relacji filozofii i rehabilitacji. Kwestia ta nabiera szczególnego znaczenia i dzisiaj, w okresie wielkich przemian i sporów cywilizacyjnych w podejściu do niepełnosprawności, życia, śmierci, ogólnie rozwoju ludzkości. Podejmując problem analizy filozoficznych i edukacyjnych aspektów procesu rehabilitacji trzeba podkreślić jego podmiotowy wymiar. Proces rehabilitacji zawsze jest związany z przestrzeganiem pewnych norm etyczno-moralnych przez tych, którzy współuczestniczą w tym procesie – podejmując trud wspomagania drugiego człowieka. Zatem wspomaganie i wspieranie rozwoju osoby z niepełnosprawnością jest jednym z podstawowych czynników warunkujących efektywność procesu rehabilitacji – edukacji specjalnej, zatrudnienia i życia osób z niepełnosprawnościami jest ciągle zbyt skromna i powierzchowna. Fakt ten utrudnia obiektywną ocenę stanu rzeczy i podejmowania racjonalnych decyzji.

The content of this article introduces the problem of how the concept of man, the essence of disability and the interrelation between philosophy and rehabilitation are presented. This issue becomes particularly important also today when great changes and civilizational disputes are taking place in the approach to disability, life, death, and the development of humankind in general. If the problem of the analysis of philosophical and educational aspects of the rehabilitation process is to be taken up, its subjective dimension needs to be emphasized. The rehabilitation process is always connected with observing certain ethical and moral standards by those who participate in this process by making an effort to support another person. Therefore, supporting the development of a person with disability is one of the basic factors that condition the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process – of special education, employment and the life of people with disabilities. The knowledge of this topic is still too scant and superficial. This fact makes it difficult to assess the state of affairs objectively and to take rational decisions.
