Krasnystaw was one of many places in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth where the Jesuits conducted their usual apostolic service, which consisted of direct pastoral care and school teaching. In the town on the banks of the Vistula, this activity took place between 1685 and 1773. This article – prepared for a conference to be held there in 2020 (cancelled due to the sanitary situation) – is a presentation of archival sources relating to the designated facility and stored in the Roman Archives of the Society of Jesus. Based on a detailed inventory of the archive’s polonica – Andrzej Paweł Bieś et al, Polonica w Archiwum Rzymskim Towarzystwa Jezusowego (vol. 1–5, Kraków 2002–2008) – it is easy to quickly and precisely locate those that originate in or relate to Krasnystaw. After their general presentation, the article addresses each of the main literary types of Jesuit documentation – these are primarily letters, directories, obituaries and formulas for final vows – with specific examples and citations of some of the sources. The author’s objective is to present how these archives can assist not only local historians, but also anyone interested in the history of the place and the mentioned documentation because of other issues they are addressing.

Krasnystaw był jednym z wielu miejsc w Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów, gdzie jezuici prowadzili swój zwyczajny apostolat, który polegał na duszpasterstwie bezpośrednim i nauczaniu w szkole. W mieście nad Wieprzem działalność ta miała miejsce w latach 1685-1773. Niniejszy artykuł – przygotowany na mającą się tam odbyć w 2020 roku konferencję (odwołaną z powodu sytuacji sanitarnej) – to prezentacja źródeł archiwalnych dotyczących wskazanej placówki i przechowywanych w Rzymskim Archiwum Towarzystwa Jezusowego. W oparciu o szczegółowy inwentarz poloników tegoż archiwum – Andrzej Paweł Bieś i in., Polonica w Archiwum Rzymskim Towarzystwa Jezusowego (t. 1-5, Kraków 2002-2008) – łatwo o szybką i precyzyjną lokalizację tych pochodzących z Krasnegostawu bądź do tego miejsca się odnoszących. Po ogólnej ich prezentacji, artykuł traktuje o każdym z głównych rodzajów literackich jezuickiej dokumentacji – są to przede wszystkim: listy, katalogi, nekrologi oraz formuły ostatnich ślubów zakonnych – z podaniem konkretnych przykładów i cytatów niektórych źródeł. Celem autora jest ukazanie w jaki sposób archiwalia te mogą pomóc nie tylko historykom lokalnym, ale też wszystkim zainteresowanym dziejami tego miejsca i wspomnianą dokumentacją ze względu na inne podejmowane przez nich zagadnienia.
