The article focuses on the analysis of the biography of an American rock guitarist, namely Jason Becker. The main object of this study was the documentary „Jason Becker. Not Dead Yet” (2012) and some selected press news and information available on social media. The original biography of the musician, who within a few years has become famous in the world of rock music and since the age of 19 has had to confront the incurable disease – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – is an interesting example of the alternative model of a biography in popular culture. It is also an educational story that teaches fundamental values, such as altruism, love, respect and friendship.

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na intermedialny charakter działalności niemieckiej grupy muzycznej Rammstein. W swojej twórczości zespół niejednokrotnie wykorzystuje kategorię wspomnień, nawiązując do dramatycznych wydarzeń, a także podejmuje intertekstualne gry z rozmaitymi konwencjami. W tekście poruszono również aspekt przybierania masek przez artystów oraz dokonano analizy występów formacji w świetle teorii Ervinga Goffmana.

This article focuses on the intermedial activity of a German music band, namely Rammstein. In its work the band, more often than not, utilizes the category of memories in order to refer to traumatic events. Moreover, the band undertakes intertextual games using various conventions. The text also touches upon the aspect of wearing masks by the artists and analyses the band’s performances in the light of Erving Goffman’s theory.

This article focuses on female hard rock and (heavy) metal artists largely marginalised in previous national research on the anthropology of popular music. The current state of research is presented in a context. Selected topics are discussed related to the artistic practices and image, the multidimensionality of the voice, the category of the body, and the aesthetics of the aging of female artists. The (heavy) metal culture is analysed in the context of exhibitionism defined in a non-reductionist manner not only as a kind of sexual paraphilia, but more broadly as a tendency (at times excessive) to reveal personal and intimate details to others, expose one’s self, and in some cases also one’s body. The text focuses on Girlschool, the British longest-running all-female rock band whose career can be viewed from the perspective of longue durée, and Otep, an American band synthetically characterised through its leader’s political manifestations represented on the album Kult 45 (2018). The careers of the both bands are analysed in terms of the dominant metal masculinist paradigm, as well as from the perspective of ideological discourses and the (trans)media logic of convergence culture.

Ponadto poruszone zostały pewne aspekty związane z działalnością fanów rocka i ich twórczością w sieci internetowej.

In the context of the convergence issues, the text touches upon the selected new media, interesting from the perspective of a rock fan. Furthermore, the article touches upon the aspects covering rock fans activity and fan art on the Internet.

Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na bohaterów narracji oraz wydarzenia specyficzne i przełomowe w życiu artysty.

This article focuses on the some aspects of the autobiography of heavy metal music precursor Tony Iommi. Text Iron man. My journey through the sky and hell with Black Sabbath was considered in the context of category of autobiographical memory. Special attention was paid to the main characters of narrative and to the specific and crucial events of the artist’s life.

Rozważania zawarte w artykule koncentrują się na zestawieniu dwu wariantów utworu Advent, wykonanego pierwotnie przez grupę Dead Can Dance, a odtworzonego kilkanaście lat później w nowym wymiarze tekstowym przez zespół Armia. Owo zestawienie uwzględnia poszerzone tło kontekstowe, odwołujące się do genealogii obydwu formacji, intertekstualnej i intermedialnej specyfiki ich twórczości oraz eksponujące horyzont aksjologiczny urzeczywistniony w tytułach i tekstach utworów.

The article compares two variants of the song Advent, originally performed by the group Dead Can Dance, and then reproduced several years later in a new text dimension by the polish band Armia. This comparison takes into account the expanded contextual background, referring to the genealogies of both formations, intertextual/intermedia specificity of their works and exposing the axiological horizon realized in the titles and texts of the tracks.
